6th Gen (PS2/GC/XB/DC/GBA)

Halo CE/2, Morrowind, GTA 3-SA, Fable, SOCOM, GOW, Smash Bros Melee, and KOTOR just to name a few. It was also when online gaming really started to blow up. It was also when consoles started to get the ability to do things outside of games. The PS2 and Xbox were both great alternatives to DVD players.

I'm gonna say Xbox 360 (and its generation). Why? Well because it's the console me and most of my friends had, hence finding people to play with was easy. Couch coop was possible and easy due to everyone having controllers. Besides having amazing games and backwards compatibility with the Xbox. PS3 was also a very strong console and the Wii was one of the most sold consoles ever, being a quite unique console with full GameCube backwards compatibility.

It’s either that or the generation before it because they were pumping out games that where made by people with a love of what they were doing and not just a cash grab and it showed. The quality of games were amazing.

360/PS3. Right before AAA went to shit and every single game was a banger.

PS2, GameCube, Wii Era.

Gaming had much less bullshit attached to it. I can easily put in hours into old games. They feel more focused, more fun, more complete, more passionate and creative.

Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Sonic Riders, Sly, Ratchet and Clank, SSX Tricky, SSX, SSX3, Freakstyle, 1080 Avalanche, Downhill Domination, IGPX, Crazy Taxi, Smash Brothers, And many others.

Racing games had way more variety back then. Not just copy and paste generic car racing games these days.

Fighting games did way more to set themselves apart.

Even shooters had more creativity.

Everything was just better creatively and more entertaining.

The N64 was my personal favorite console growing up, I played Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Goldeneye, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64 and Perfect Dark countless times when I was in middle school and high school. The PS2/Xbox generation is a very close second for me.

My favorite era was PS2/Xbox/Gamecube. This is solely because multiplayer games catered to split screen rather than having to go online. Nothing beats hanging out with friends in the same place and gaming it up

In order

PSX - didn’t really have any competition. Great games.

PS2 - had some great games and was relatively reliable.

X360 - absolutely blew the PS2 and PS3 out the water. This was the first console I ever owned that felt like it was a truly gaming machine. Xbox live was incredible. Parties were amazing. The entire experience is still unbeaten tbh.

X1 - whilst I ended up switching from the X1 to the ps4, I preferred having the X1. Not particular reason. I just preferred it all.

I’ve not owned a PS5 so I can’t compare but I currently have an XSX and I’m having the best time of my life on it

Sadly the PS3's unique architecture was not fully utilized by game developers until near the end of the console's life. Xbox 360 was much easier for developers to work with which is why you see most Xbox 360 games looking better than the same games on PS3 during the earlier years.
