Hi r/gaming! My mom recently read a book called Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, that's kinda related to video games and she realized she might actually be interested in them. For context shes 63 years old, a grandmother, and has never touched a game before. I, her son, play games, but they're not the kind she'd be interested in, so I need some recommendations! From talking to her I think shes mainly interested in RPGs that tell a cinematic story, preferably with little to no violence. She likes historic settings, but I'm not sure how she'd feel about futuristic/fantasy ones, I think it'd depend on the game. Currently I'm letting her use my old laptop, (acer nitro 5) so please limit you recommendations to games available on PC. Thank you so much!

I think you should expose her to many different games.

My good friends mom who we'd say is a non violent, romance reader, has been obsessed with Age of Empires for over 20yrs since she watched me playing it one day on their living room desktop and she wanted to give it a try. She plays it every day.

My 70yr old father loves Mario games still. He never was a gamer and only picked up a controller when I pushed him too, I've since been told that in his 60's he picked up the Wii and started using it.

My Wife loves RollerCoaster Tycoon, and SIMs, I've been trying to get her to Try Raft which myself and my 2 kids play.

As I type this, I think I would recommend Raft to you as it has a story element and can be played with minimal violence.

It isn't an RPG, but I bet she'd enjoy What remains of Edith Finch.

Portal is always a good starting point just for learning controls. Also portal+portal 2 is $1.50 on steam right now.

I'd probably look at the highest-rated games on Steam with the "point & click" tag if I were you. There's still a lot of variety there, some of which probably wouldn't be of interest to her, but you can find games that fit every single one of your criteria there.

The recent Assassin Creeds game might fit the bill. But show her if the combat is fine with her.
