Trying to get some up-to-date answers for this in case there's been some awesome games to come out in the last year or so as it's been YEARS since I last dabbled in competitive gaming.

I can't wear headphones which means that competitive squad based games are out. However most of the "best of" lists I've read are 95% FPS titles.

What are some awesome non shooter multiplayer games (on Xbox) that I could try. And an FYI, I am all caps TERRIBLE at fighters/brawlers!

You want to play -competitive- multiplayer games but nothing that's a shooter or fighter?

It doesn't sound like competition is what you're looking for in modern multiplayer games unless you want to try something like Fall Guys

Rocket League comes to mind right away.

Bomberman is really fun in ranked, but a lot of people don't take it seriously because of how the game looks.

Racing games can be competitive if you try to set leaderboard scores, and Xbox has Forza which is a great series.

Does Xbox have any notable rhythm games? Genuinely not sure, but those might be an option.

Tetris / Tetris Effect could satisfy a competitive itch, if you try to set PR/high scores.

Unfortunately if you don't want to engage in anything team based, or fighting games, then your options on Xbox are a little limited. Most will come down, in some way, to competing against a leaderboard or against yourself (ie beating personal high scores, time trials, etc). That's....not necessarily a bad thing. I think that type of competition is way less toxic than other mainstream competitive games anyway.

You could also learn speed running of a game you enjoy? It's a personal journey, but it can also be highly competitive, if you want it to be. It's pretty enjoyable.

Limiting to console makes it kinda difficult. That Pretty much excludes nearly every MMO and most RTS games that could be considered competitive. Like Eve Online or New World. Games that have a major focus on pvp.

On console you're pretty much stuck with FPS games or brawl/fighting games.

I guess Age of Empires 2 is out now on Xbox lol. But RTS games on a controller don't feel very good.

Chivalry 2 can be played in 3rd person and can be as competitive as you make it. Nothing more satisfying than smacking someone with a two handed hammer and seeing them rag doll.
