When I was younger I was playing Pokémon Red on a gameboy with a rechargeable battery. It was charging as I was playing, plugged into the wall. I was just outside the entrance to the Elite Four, Pokémon all set up for the battle. I pressed save … and then we had a power cut followed quickly by a surge. The game wiped, everything was gone. I remember the loss still.

I remember I played through the gta story over 2 days and I had forgotten to save but the game would start where I left off since I never turned my Xbox off. It didn't save when I did turn my Xbox off

Man, love RDR2. But my experience (idk why) was that every single time I got an achievement, game would just freeze an I had to restart the whole mission again(( kinda raised achievementophobia in me:D

Check out a uninterruptible power supply. That will help with the power outages.

Well my game didn’t crash but I recall a time playing one of the gta games that had a casino mini game. I would save and place huge bets, reloading if I lost. Eventually I made millions and spent it customizing a car in one of those auto shops. As soon as I drove out of the garage, an airplane fell out of the sky and exploded right on top of me. Either it was karma, a crazy coincidence, or the game developers were playing a joke

FF VII comes to mind. Spent a few hours grinding AP and EXP at North Crater to get every materia and character to max level. Didn't save during the grind. As I was finally heading back to the save crystal, a battle with one Ahriman started. For some weird reason, maybe out of boredom, I tossed a random battle item at the Ahriman, which triggered it to counter with LVL3 Death. Whole party was KOd because I had just achieved lvl99 with everyone. I just sat there watching the game over screen with blank eyes for a while... and started over. Felt nice.

I play my games with mods. You merely adopted the crashes, I was born in them, molded by them. I don't remember a game without crashes and playing without mods is nothing but blinding to me.

Anyone here playing Marauders probably knows a thing or two about losing stuff to game crashes

Unrelated to the game crashing, but I'm the reason my dad stopped playing video games. He was doing his third run on Final Fantasy 1 for the NES and had pages written out for how to complete everything he'd found in an efficient order. I was probably 6, because I hadn't started first grade yet.
I asked if I could play, he said yes, next time he booted it up he actually cried. I'd erased all the saves just to start my game.
He only played Myst and Riven on a computer he kept locked in his room after that, but never played video games with me again.
He's also a terrible person, so while I would never do that on purpose to someone, I'm glad it happened to him.

Used to be a lot worse before (most) games started autosaving when you changed cells or did certain things. It’s been a long time since I can remember losing hours of progress in one fell swoop.
