Easy answer. Came out in college. It was addictive to the point that we had an open door and open PC policy on my hall that anyone could host a multiplayer game on someone else’s PC in their absence to allow for mule-ing and sharing.

Travy-D t1_ja8rp6t wrote

RuneScape. As far as actual addiction, my young mind got such a high from grinding and leveling up. Such a stupid game that isn't actually that fun. Like really, who wants to sit and click "chop tree" for an hour?

Thankfully I can now recognize the signs for when I'm actually addicted to a game and know when to quit. I don't like playing games that don't have a real ending. I have a few friends that have tried getting me to play WoW and I won't.

Yup that was me in High School. One day you realize that it has to be enough. May take 500 hours or closer to 2000 (like in my case) but then you don't look back because you realize how much better you feel having time to do things that don't fill you with bitter emptiness.

Hearthstone. I had to delete it. I downloaded, and was like, "it's a crappy version of MTG". Next thing I know it's 4 hours later and I'm still rocking. 5 nights in a row I stayed up till at least 3 am playing it. It's not that I wanted to exactly, it's just that I literally lost all comprehension of time. After I realized I played for two hours at work one day, I deleted it and never went back.
