The Switch Lite is the cheapest model and it is HANDHELD ONLY.

The regular Switch and OLED Switch can be played handheld or connected to the TV. The only big difference between these two is the screen quality in handheld mode. OLED is better but more $$.

Get some extra controllers and a screen protector (because kid).

Nintendo is a fantastic choice for kid friendly games.

It’s called a Nintendo Switch that he wants, it can hook up to the TV or be used as a handheld like you said. They’re about $300 new

  1. Nintendo is the brand, Switch is the model you want.
  2. Get the proper switch, not the Lite.
  3. Get two Pro controllers to go with it.
  4. Get a decent travel case
  5. Get a screen protector
  6. There's fun games for little kids on the online store, and the store sometimes has deals where you can get credit vouchers at a discount

Nintendo Switch has more family friendly games. As others said, get the Switch, not the switch lite. The lite is only handheld.

Get Pro controllers, if adults are going to play. You can use the joy cons (the controllers that come with it), but they're small and hurt your hands after a while. It comes with an attachment to make a bigger controller, if you need that, but then it's only 1 player. So a separate controller for each adult.

I also recommend buying digital games, unless you have complete control over the games. If your son is going to be switching them out, just get the digital games. My kids lost so many games because the game cards are tiny and they're not careful with them.

I presume you're talking about a switch? Really good bit of kit, my lad has had his for about 5 years now and its still going strong. I'd say get the proper one, not a lite and get a separate controller, don't use the joy-cons because they break easily and are mega expensive to replace. Even if using it "hand held" its best to still use a controller imo

I’d second the suggestion about getting a controller, especially if hooking it up to the TV will be the main play style. I got a Nintendo Pro controller and it’s much better to use than the joy cons that come with it

For sure, though it adds another 100+ (for 2) to the price I think it’s worth it. And it’s always handy to have two to charge one / play with the other. At least this is what I do.

The joycons won't last long so don't get the lite version . The joycons arnt removable on the lite.

Just get the normal OLED switch and put a screen protector on it.

Set up an account for yourself and a separate for your kid.

The OLED switch can be used on the TV and as a handheld.
Regarding controllers, I'd go for 3rd party (depending on your budget) and not get the pro controllers from Nintendo.. they have a pretty fast rate of having stick drift, especially with dirty kids hands.

There's no such thing as "A Nintendo".

Shit like that gets you a visit from their lawyers.
