Don’t think there’s any wrong answer, but we’d need to know a bit more about you to cater which console is best. In my opinion, I typically pick based off 2 things:

  1. Game where my friends play. I buy a system based off where my friends play, as nothing is better then having a game night to blow off some steam. Most my friends/family/co-workers game on one platform and that’s the system I bought.
  2. Game where my games are. Both consoles share a lot of the same games, but both have exclusive games that some like more then the other. Maybe write a list of all the top 10 games you want to play and categorized it by most important to least. Those top games are going to consume a ton of your time.

But I think it’s pointless comparing little things like specs, features, controllers, etc simply because there’s so many micro differences, so many options, some of it is simply preference, what matters is the above.

So what kind of games have you enjoyed in the past, and what kind of games are you looking forward to playing?

If you are not bound to exclusive titles, go XBOX.

Controller is much more ergonomic, much better battery life. gamepass has an insane value if you do the XboX Live Gold trick (about 4$ a month) and you get a huge library with great games and also alot of big title first day releases.

You have backwards compatibility, can play 99% of xbox360 games, (you can only !stream! ps3/ps2 games on PS5).

I have both consoles and tested various games for optimisation, both on Xbox and PS and they all ran either the same or better on Xbox (50-60 fps compared to sub 30 for alot of "last gen" titles).

And you can also install emulators on your Xbox, so you can play anything from gameboy to PS2 in 4k if you want. So you can actually play all PS1/PS2 games on your Xbox which you cant even play on your PS5 lol.

Also, i thought it was just a gimmick, but quick resume is a great feature.

If you want exclusives and games from japanese developers: PS5

If you want a lot of games for less to no money: Xbox (Gamepass)

If you want 3rd person action story and jrpg games go with ps5, also ps plus essential & extra is pretty good.

If you want shooters and wrpg go with xbox, xblive gold sucks ass/ gamepass is awesome.

Edit: i got both but use my ps5 more cause of trophies.

As PC isn't an option for you it comes down to weighing titles -- of which there are a number of exclusives for both platforms in your situation -- and services.

Cause inflation is real, I can't and refuse to buy the same game(s) on every console. Especially if they now go for $70 to start, plus season passes, plus dlc every 6 months. Find a decent set up you like and stop giving these developers your money, it's not like they are pumping out "original 10/10" kind of games anymore. Lol 🤣

Xbox, game pass is an unreal deal and with the titles coming out in this first half of the year that alone will pay for the service itself

I prefer console over PC and honestly don't think you can go wrong with either Xbox or PS5.

Merwanor t1_jadt4x2 wrote

I have both, but I use my PS5 more because I just like the controller a lot more than the Xbox controller. It is just the best controller out right now, somehow I just find the Xbox controller to feel cheaper and it just lacks features.

PS5 without competition. Only get xbox if you can't afford the games and need game pass.

Series X. PlayStation seems to get greedier every year which is depressing. For example, Xbox you can subscribe to their game pass (which is a great streaming service compared to PS Plus tier system), but I’m a hard copy guy. You can also play old games on the series X (360 and even original Xbox games). PlayStation is only backwards compatible with PS4 and if you want to play older games you have to subscribe to their service to just rent or play. Xbox if a game shows on game pass and you’re not on the subscription you have the option to buy that game and own it forever compared to PlayStation where once you let your subscription lapse you’re kinda hosed. I will say PS has some phenomenal exclusives, but that’s about it in my opinion. Xbox app is way better. You can send links to friends of recently captured gameplay so it doesn’t come across all blocky. They also have a fun tier system each month for gamerscore achievements. I’ve always been a PS guy but had recently switched with this PS5 and the greed they are instilling with their games and platforms. I see a bright future for Xbox. They are just now starting to come out with great exclusives (High on Life, Grounded, you can even play Goldeneye 007 & Age of Empires now!) aside from Gears, Halo, Forza, etc. which are phenomenal games as well! This is purely my opinion and meant to just help this dude figure out what he wants. Whether you’re a hardcore PS guy or Nintendo, it’s just an opinion. Have a good one!
