The SNES game Paladin's Quest (known as Lennus in Japan) portrays unique character and monster designs, and colour pallets, totally unlike anything produced before or since.

Have you played Summer In Mara? It’s a Chibig game so all their games are in the same “universe” and you get to unlock pieces of a map to sail on but it’s aliens on all the different islands instead of humans. Honestly super cute and unique!

The Xenoblade games have some of the best and interesting worlds I've played in.

You're basically ants on the bodies of walking giants.

God a good mesh of sci-fi and fantasy along with a ting of anime (or a lot if XB2)

Lennus 2 is a great game, especially since it has a lot more sprite detail -- the first game started developmental as a GameBoy title before being moved to the SNES -- and it shows in the character and monster designs, and for that matter the architecture designs, but the sequel dropped the unique colour pallet the first game was known for.

And binding of Isaac if you want to delve into the realm of body horror

Idk about strange, but wandering my way through the devastated plague ridden France while being hunted by the Inquisition in Plague Tale Innocence has been incredible. It’s sooo engaging and sucks you in to the point you feel like you’re the one walking past hundreds of corpses or thousands of rats trying to swarm and devour you.

Ori and the Blind Forest and it's sequel Will o' the wisps.

It's a metroidvania along the lines of Hollow Knight. It's absolutely GORGEOUS.
