The System Shock remake.....

I love System Shock and when the announcement for the remake was made i was so Happy, the Game looks so promising and the demo? LOVE THAT DEMO πŸ’•πŸ’•πŸ’•

But when was the announcement made? 2015? And 8 years laters and no Sign of a proper release date.... I'm frankly not interested anymore in the Game, dont even know if i'll purchase It when It comes out

Edit: (the Game supposedly release on may 30 of this year, but they changed the release date SO MANY TIMES that i'm taking this with a grain of salt and even if It were definitive, im still not interested)

With game development times these days, I think you're on to something.

The next "The Elder Scrolls" game is 10+ years out. Next "Fallout" could be just as long, if not longer.

Cyberpunk 2077 sequel could be around the same length of development time given CDPR track record.

ostateboi419 t1_jea2xbp wrote

Anthem and Battlefield 2042 were the final nails in the coffin for me getting hyped for games before release. These games had incredible marketing and trailers that didn't at all resemble what we got with the final product. I don't even trust the initial reviews on most games, because now developers will scam the playerbase by holding off on predatory monitization schemes until after the release reviews go out.

So yeah, I don't pay any attention to release dates or marketing for games anymore. I will judge games solely on how good they are when the fully release, regardless of how long they were in development.

Apparently someone on the team said a late 2023 release was possible, but that was in November last year and (as far as I know) no updates have been given since.

Damn shame, too, since right now is still within a decent window to release things related to (non-D&D) tabletop games. WotC doing their anti-consumer crap is still fresh enough that people will still have other tabletop games in the back of their minds.

Only the first chapter is in early access, I played through it once last year and encountered minimal bugs. But I will wait for the full game now. Some people in the community replay it every time they do an update. I guess they enjoy being unpaid bug testers...

There's far too many quality games out there right now to be worried about future games releases IMO

Jwhitey96 t1_je9dzsn wrote

I disagree with this. Sure it’s been 8 years since announcement but we had part 1 5 years after announcement, and part 2 is put this winter, a mere 3 years after part 1. I would say 5 years is average game development time, with 3 years being really quick. The issue which square never learns from is announcing things way to early. Most games announce when they are half way through so often have 1-3 years from announcement to release. Square alway announces a game when it has just started, which is dumb

Honestly… Starfield

At this point, I KNOW modded Starfield will just be better than the base game, it will launch with dozens of not hundred (…or thousands of bugs) and will take months of retooling to get it even halfway stable, yes it’s a large universe to explore… but procedural generation often is pretty ick in terms of depth, etc

I’ll prolly play it on PCGP… but I’m not dropping money on it, just not that interested

Star Citizen is an obvious one. It went off the rails about 6 years ago by my count, and I just stopped caring. They keep adding stuff for the sake of adding stuff, not even in service of fun or gameplay, but just to see if they can. I'm so past caring now it's not even funny, but I do hope someone wakes me up when it gets full VR support, like they promised in kickstarter campaign...back in 2012.
