Been toying the idea of a Steam Deck but finally decided against it. Saving the money for games instead, so far it’s been a great decision.

If you want to play games where you currently can't do it (like in bed or on the bus or train or outside), then get one. If you're satisfied with gaming at your desk or doing console gaming on your couch then don't get one.

If you don’t see yourself using it outside of your house then I’d just recommend a gaming laptop

I have had my SD for a few weeks so far. And I am loving it! It allows me to be closer to my family, instead of being locked in another room gaming by myself. I am also looking forward to having it when I travel this summer. Its also just really fun to dink around with. Its not replacing my PS5 though, just filling in some gaps for games I don’t have. I am still going to use the PS5 for big blockbuster games, and use the Deck for the games I cant get on PlayStation, and smaller indy games.

Coolest piece of gaming tech I’ve ever owned. Loaded mine up with tons of emulated stuff among some more modern titles. Got a dock, playing 2 player NBA Jam with ps5 controllers was an Aha moment. That being said I have a decent sized console collection and the means to not mind purchasing it.
I’d say, if playing nostalgic emulated stuff, having something to do on an airplane/work/wherever or chilling on your couch without hogging the TV sounds like it fits your needs then go for it. If other things fit those gaps, maybe hold out.

Absolutely agree with this. I love my SD for the same reasons you mentioned - allowing me to be closer to family, using it on the commute or travelling for work or just picking up for a quick 10mins here and there. But if none of these situations apply to you then I think the SD might not be worth it - it’s great at what it does but if you spend all your gaming time at a desk or in front of a tv then a PC or Console is the better choice imo.

I wish I never bought it. Seems impressive and the novelty is strong at first but once I had it all setup with my roms and favorite PC games it got boring. That is just my personal experience and everyone is different, but I already have a nice PC and any other console.

It literally can run even AAA games on that little fucker. It's not perfect though. The fan can get a bit loud, and the battery life isn't always great...but it actually is a full on gaming PC in the palms of your hands.

If you're gaming on the go, it's miles better than a gaming laptop for games where you don't need a keyboard/mouse.

Yes, if you already have Steam and library of games. It can also run emulators for various devices including the Switch.

I really like the Steam Deck! I have zero regrets purchasing the 512 GB model. It runs great and has decent battery for a handheld device. The majority of my Steam games have run just fine on it. It's also awesome for emulation gaming. I've also never had any fan issues, not sure why others have.

However, I use it quite a bit at work and also while lying down at home. If you don't plan on doing either, and you have a decent PC already, then it's not worth it I'd say. It's pretty good for desktop mode, but there's a lot more powerful PC builds you could make if you're looking at high end gaming. Albeit much more pricy, obviously.

It is absolutely worth it and changed the way I game.

Honestly I didn’t even think I “needed” one until I started traveling a lot. Once I got one though I realized just how awesome it is.

I feel completely untethered from my desk which has allowed me to spend more time in other areas of my house rather than being stuck in my gaming room.

The ability to stream games from your desktop is also huge.

I can basically play any game at high end pc levels of graphics on my deck from anywhere in the home.

Plus the system itself is pretty damn powerful even without utilizing your home system. It can natively run games like divinity original sin 2, the Witcher 3, and cyberpunk all on high graphics settings with zero issue. I even played cp2077 on ULTRA with this thing and it still ran fine.

Some games also just play better on a handheld. King games of civ5 for example are way better on the steam deck where you c an pick it up from anywhere.

Just my opinion but yes. For me it has changed my gaming habits.

It depends on your use case and current circumstances. How do you currently game / what system do you use? What is your current TV and what would be the upgrade? Do you have a library of steam games or do you want to get into pc gaming?

I bought one to get access to pc games and some titles which don't need to be played on a big screen and I've loved it so far (had mine for 8 months) but it really depends on whether or not you'd make use of it.

It feels liberating to carry your entire game library with you and not in your gaming room. You can play games in many places, and emulation is just an icing to the cake. I have hundreds if not thousands of retro games (such as Parasite Eve, Marvel vs Capcom, Metal Gear Solid 3, classic Resident Evil games, Dino Crisis, Vagrant Story and much more) alongside modern games stored on it. I can play them in the bed, outdoor or whatever. Great for family gathering etc

Also able to watch Netflix, youtube and more on it, so why not.

I have modern consoles (Nintendo Switch, PS5, Xbox series S) and a RTX3070TI PC but I still spend lots of time on the Steam Deck.

I haven't really used my PC much for gaming since I bought it. it's a magical device on every level, I recommend it wholeheartedly for so many reasons besides just gaming

If you can't get/set up a PC and you need to game and u enjoy that - Deck is the safest bet

I can play RDR2 on the train, toilet, bed etc. if you have cash spare then buy one imo

It's a cool piece of tech that you can also tinker around with to play things other than your Steam games. But if you don't plan to play on the go or to chill in bed/on the couch then it's not really worth getting one.
