Movie tie-in games died for a reason.

I would imagine because it’d just be Max Payne with John Wick name on it. The indie game at least tried something different. I can’t imagine a AAA John Wick game being anything but good for the first few levels of cool cinematic brutal kills, then just boring repetition for the rest of the game.

Don't forget Payday 2 and Chronicles the VR game.

John Wick style games already more or less exist and the FPS/TPS market is already crowded.

Max Payne would probably be the closest series to John Wick

Would the premise make a good game? Absolutely.

Would the production team rush it out to cash in on the movie hype, therefore making it a horribly put-together game? Also, absolutely.

You're talking about games set within the universe then, that's completely different.

I thought you were talking about a direct game adaptation of the movie(s) that littered the industry up until the early 2000's.

John Wick would make a fantastic game. Personally I'd like to see it happen (and done properly). But licensed properties have historically had a stigma attached to them. And that fact alone makes any potential developer/publisher think twice before throwing their time and money at a project like this.

No thanks.

Rushed cash in game likely.

Even if they try their best, they'll never meet expectations of their audience.

My gaming library is fairly limited compared to hardcore enthusiasts but I don't recall any shooters, FPS or cover-based TPS that let you switch to grappling. At best, you might get a default melee animation or the occasional random one in Deus Ex.

I think allowing players to switch between grappling and shooting would be pretty cool, especially if you could use them as human shields or shove them into other combatants. You could enter a grapple state with certain enemies and have a status bar like Sekiro where once you do a combination of enough blocks or deal enough damage it could open them up to a hand to hand or gun finisher and if the pressure is too hot, you could just release them and bail

Even if it isn't John Wick, it could be a fun idea

It's called Max Payne, and it was way ahead of its time.

There was a Bungie game, Oni, which blended shooting and martial arts pretty well for the time. It's like their hidden game everyone forgot about. Combine that with Sifu style game and you might have a winner.

I totally remember Oni as a near launch ps2 title. Good shout 👏

The devs who made Sifu can probably make it work.

Yeah I'm not sure you'd even bother with bullet time for this. There are other mechanics you could try like him raising his suit jacket to block bullets makes him weak to hand to hand attacks or getting grabbed and using hand to hand makes him more vulnerable to ranged weapons so you'd have to keep bouncing between the two if the level design put you in tight spaces with multiple entrances for enemies to flank you. Could have a third mode for melee weapons for some rock-paper-scissors action

Could have sworn there was a hex/turn based type game that was a John Wick game. Obviously, it didn't go over to well.

Ah yes, why hasn't they're been a game about a dude that shoots people and fights apart from those 50,000 or so?

It's not the even remotely similar story-wise, but I've been playing Midnight Run Express and it's got some really great John Wick beat em up/shoot em up vibes. Highly recommend giving it a try.

According to the fans of TLOU 2 and the tv show. Action scenes are boring to watch and should only be in video games.
