Hey gamers, Mods, if this type of post isn't allowed feel free to remove it as I am not sure where to post it.

So I've been thinking about getting a gaming PC really only for three or four games, Minecraft Java Edition with mods, Kerbal Space Program 1 & 2 with mods, Cities: Skylines 1 and eventually 2 with mods and maybe Diablo IV. I want 4k resolution at 60 fps and 120hz refresh rate. The problem is I don't understand computer tech lingo anymore. I understand that I should be looking at 16-32 gb of ramm, however, I am confused on the difference between DDR, I have no clue what GPU would work well vs would "work" and also clueless about what CPU range I should be looking for.

I've seen some what look like decent options online that look like they have room for expansion, however I would like to avoid getting one with a motherboard that will be obsolete in a year or two if possible. I'm hoping this is doable within a $500-$700 price range but i understand that may not be possible.

Any help is greatly appreciated and again if this type of post is not allowed here just say so and I'll remove it. Thanks.

Edit: I have the monitor already.

Edit 2: Thank you everyone for all of your feedback. I have a much larger grasp of what I'm looking for now and realize my desire far outweighs my price range. I will adjust accordingly, save some more money and use the tax return that I completely forgot about lol. Thanks again.

You are going to have a very hard time with that, you should consider toning down your goals a bit with that small of a budget. Any decent 4k 120hz monitor alone is going to take pretty much your entire budget and the GPU to run it will cost just as much

If you are willing to go 1440p you will have a far easier time of putting a plan together

I was just going to use my TV, the PC is all I need at this point. If I did scale down to 1440p what GPU models should I be looking at?

TVs are usually very subpar to hook high end computers to as they are typically built to run the steady 24fps of tv/movies and almost always have terrible input lag which is usually a pre consideration for games.

However if you already have a $1000+ tv that can do the job then your budget is far more realistic now for 1440p.

Gpus to lookbfor deals on, anything this powerful or higher

2080/3070

5700

With this budget you would be lucky getting constant 60fps in fullHD.

And if you start from zero and need a monitor and peripherie this alone will eat your entire budget if you want 4k.

600-700 fhd is 100-144fps+ lol that is literally the standard of a fhd midrange build of course it depends on the games but it can do it in optimized games. You're not supposed to buy off best buy or Walmart not even understanding how overpriced they might be.

For reference the key specifications for my PC are:

  • DDR4 RAM 32GB
  • Intel i7 processor I think

Minecraft modded is quite a resource hog for RAM so the more the merrier

You are going to need like at least $1000 for 4k 120hz, probably a lot more, especially for newer games like Diablo or those crazy graphical mods for Minecraft.

1k I could swing. I just don't know what models of GPU I should even be looking at for specs like that lol

it's useless to have 120hz with 60 fps going to it

or sell that high refresh rate monitor and get you a nice 75hz with freesync/gsync and maybe that could free up some budget for you to make the components more doable.

my 10700k + 3060ti played d4 beta at ~80-100 fps @ 1080p but what you have to realize is 4k is literally rendering the same picture with 4x as many pixels (granted with more details) and every frame requires 4x the data that a 1080p monitor would.

If I were you I would research and look for benchmarks of these games and watch out for your specific goal of having 4K with 60fps. You will get a general idea what hardware will be needed for this and how much it might cost combined.

The problem is he have chosen games that cant really be benchmarked beacuse the performance will change depending on how big/much he builds, not to mention the unstability using mods
