Keep playing the original. The new mechanics are fantastic but different from the old. The map is also similar but strikingly different and at times remixed. Unless there's a "play the original campaign" mode after beating the new one, there's reason to replay the original.

Its a replacement for me.

Once a year I played re4 on normal then on pro. Now I have remake it will just replace the old one.

I will play it again at some point though.

Replacement for sure. The og RE games have become unplayable to me, especially the move-or-shoot mechchanic. I can't stand it nor do I like the fixed camera like in the original 2 or 3. I think these remakes are absolutely amazing and have put new life into them. All of the remakes will be replacements to the old versions for me.

Whenever I get around to playing it there's a good likelihood it will become the replacement for me, just because of ease of access.

It’s a good question and I’m not sure. Resi 4 will be the first REmake that I’ve actually played the original.

I’ve played REmake, REmake 2 and REmake 3, but never the original 3. For some reason 4 was never my favourite even though it is widely considered the best, so I am suspecting I will enjoy the remake a lot more than original, only because of what I have seen so far from the gameplay.

Definitely a replacement

Will prolly only play the Original out of Nostalgia but that's pretty much it.

100% replacement. The original's controls have not aged well at all; it's incredibly janky and the newer game has smoothed the controls so it's much nicer.

It's not a replacement because the original game is such a product of its time and will still be played. I see the remake as more of a tribute.

The original RE 1-4 game mechanics were God awful. Def won't ever play them again.

Nah. After the RE3 remake came out, I wanted more once I beat it because it was so damn short. So I started up RE4 for the first time since its original launch and I couldn't move and shoot at the same time. Noped right the hell out of there. The new remakes have spoiled me lol

I finished 4 Remake over the weekend and was planning going back to the original. Don’t think I’ll bother. I do still like the original trilogy though. I’m a sucker for tank controls.

On that note, I really hope the next remake is Resident Evil 1 or even 0. I know people are asking for Code Veronica, which I am too, but I want the og in the same way as 2, 3, and 4 first. I would also really like to see RE0 remade and brought up to modern times as well.

Replacement for sure, I already played the original to death. At least 3x on the GameCube, at least 2x on the Wii, dabbled a bit in the Steam version. Never have to play it again really now that it’s been remade.

I'll agree with you that it feels harder, like you have less room to breathe, and the atmosphere is definitely darker. They seem to have trimmed a fair bit of unnecessary fat from certain areas (like the Castle) as well.

Adding stuff like the side quests and the expanded Blue Medallion stuff is really cool, and I love what they've done with the shop... but it is more or less the same game at the end of the day, and I think it's important that it be that way. If it wasn't, it wouldn't feel like what we all played nearly 20 years ago, and that was a big component of what would make it enjoyable.

So don't take what I'm saying as a gripe. It's just that it is mostly the same, just better.

A replacement, I don’t mind the og graphics at all, but the controls are the turn off for me, tried playing it last year for a couple of hours but couldn’t continue sadly.

I haven’t gotten very far, I’m up to the part where you met the merchant for the first time. But the game isn’t really the same or 1:1 exactly like the original. Like they’ve terraformed the environment to incorporate more of the lake into the village area. It’s truly impressive, also the area after you get captured with Luis. It’s a remix of the interior space of the area after the sniper canyon area in the original. Really cool how they managed to remix it the way they did. So many things they’ve done so far with this remake is so astounding, like they didn’t have to go this hard! They could’ve just improved the graphics and left it at that but they really outdid themselves. I can’t wait for the regen labs on the island. I’m buzzing!

I would say it's more of a tribute game. OG remains in our hearts to this day.
