I remember losing it in Fallout 3 because Games for Windows Live might actually be the worst piece of software ever designed by mankind.

When I was a kid my sister deleted my 100% complete Star Ocean 2 save. All characters max lvl, all items crafted, secret dungeon cleared, everything. A 150+ hour save gone, so she could start a new fucking crash bandicoot 2 file. I was not impressed.

Yep. Me and my best friend used to 100% LEGO games whenever he would visit (he lived out of state). We were on the last mission we needed for one of them when the game crashed. Loaded the game back up, and boom, file corrupted, save data gone.

When you complete Parasite Eve (PS1), you get to take a single weapon with you and play through the whole game again (with an epic alternate endgame dungeon). Right when I beat the first playthrough and it was saving, my dog came running through the room and caught on the controller cord at such speed that it ripped the PlayStation out of place and sent it sailing. The save file was corrupted. I didn't wind up beating new game plus until 10 years later.

Back in the day it happened too often, my home PC failed seldomly and would lose me so many saved files, made me never re play many games xD

Only if you count from not being able to save on the N64 without a memory pak. I think the GameCube was my only console that required any other external storage, where it never left the console. Then it was the Wii, internal, 360 clipped to the top and never came off. Everything from Xbox One/PS4 on is all cloud based.

140 hours into attempting the Dark Souls 2 platinum. Finished everything but the last DLC boss and my internet going out corrupted the save file.

Yeah, Origin screwed up my cloud saves a couple times. They were two for two on it desyncing and nuking my data, so I‘ve left their cloud saving disabled for… damn I think six years now. And I’ve needed a cloud hosted save in Origin exactly 0 times since then, so no regrets there.

I also had my first Dark Souls 1 character nuked. I let my roommate sign into my desktop to test something real quick in the game, and that blew away the save file for whatever reason. Thankfully I hadn’t gotten particularly far, so it was fine.

Playing Need for Speed Underground. At the end of the game, maybe an event or two away from the end. Playing my heart out, frustrated about a drag race I just couldn't win. There's a thunderstorm going on outside I'm not paying attention to, I go to save when the power suddenly drops out. The power came back on after a few seconds, but all that save data was gone. All the work I put into the game getting the car I had and upgraded and just, I was so god damn mad. I took the game disc, which I was playing on the Gamecube, and put it in the palm of my hand and squeezed until it crushed.

I bought a new copy a few days later and started over again and beat the game.

Yes but no? I moved out for a while after my grandpa passed away to stay with my grandma to be with her. After like 5 months or so I moved back in. Come to find out my sister took over and never made her own profile and changed my entire profile to suit her from playing overwatch. At the time I was playing Destiny 1 and Warframe, I had hundreds of hour put into both and spent my own money in both games. I tried explaining it to my sister and parents, and yet I was never given back "ownership" of the profile. So to this day, my sister has technical ownership of all my data on destiny and warframe (and a shit ton of other games), and the only way I can play them again is to ask to get on the old profile

Yes - twice. Once was playing through batman Asylum on the 360...getting about 70% through then losing everything. Still not completed it.

The other was losing my saves in Dreams on the ps4...having spent months working on a game...having not used cloud saves to back it up. That was a fun day.

Anyone remember the cursed demo disc for PS2, where if you played the Viewtiful Joe demo with a memory card in, it'd wipe it? Yeah, that was a shared memory card between me, my brother and my mother. Hundreds of hours on Dynasty and Samurai Warriors, all the Battlefront and Final Fantasy data... So much progress, just... Gone. We didn't even know it would do it (obviously) and it took us so long to figure out why we lost all our data. Pissed*3.

My GameCube memory card became currupt and lost a ton of saved game files including the Smash bros Melee file that probably had 1,000 + hours on it collectively through playing it over the years in my childhood. At the point when I found out the card was corrupt none of us were really playing the game anymore so I wasn't that crushed but I was bumed, so many good memories were on that save file
