Graphics are the same as the last, gameplay looks mildly improved.

More I’ll take, botw never overstayed it’s welcome to me

I don't know what to think tbh. So far all we've seen is the same old game with a handful of new powers and some sky islands. That hasn't got me excited at all. It looks like a DLC.

Thing is though, they've been working on this game for six years! And they started with an existing game engine, world and assets. So I simply cannot believe that all we’re going to end up with is what we've seen so far. They could have made a second entirely new landmass in that time.

We still haven't seen much of the new game world and where it plays out. Some of those sky islands look like they have interesting looking buildings on them. Dungeon entrances perhaps?

Will wait and see. I agree that what we've seen is underwhelming. I just can't believe that'll be the lot.

I’m hoping they fleshed out much better dungeons unlike the beasts.

Yes parts of the game was the same map just frozen over lol.

Gorgon654 t1_je1r4p5 wrote

I don't think it looks super different but I don't think it looks like dlc either, just a pretty direct sequel. what would they need to show for you to think it doesn't look like dlc?

2

AsTheFiendFalls t1_je1rakt wrote

Something new…

−1

Gorgon654 t1_je1skr4 wrote

I mean, they have shown off new stuff. areas, enemies, story, game mechanics like fusion and ultrahand.

2

dainfamous06 t1_je25hfn wrote

Legacy dungeons. More interesting world. Better story. There was nothing that they showed today that I felt was very interesting. I felt Elden Ring did everything that BOTW was trying to do with the open world much better, and I was hoping they were going to fill out the empty world from the first game more.

I wouldn’t say it looks stale or dated…

But it’s not My LoZ so I’m more than likely taking a break from “mainline” LoZ for now.

Definitely love the series overall, and am all for if they remake/remaster any of the classics again.

2

beannut_putter t1_je1cw6v wrote

100% agree. nothing against botw but I don't want it to define all Zelda games rom now on. Zelda games have almost always been unique to each other and each one add their own thing, I hope that keeps happening instead of just making them all like botw.

3

PapaProto t1_je1eali wrote

Hopefully after TotK, they can return to form.

Glad for those who enjoy the current LoZverse but there’s a reason many people don’t enjoy it in comparison to past greats.

2

My_Random_Username1 t1_je2qksq wrote

For those that are old enough, they remember that this already happened with Ocarina and Majora's.
So, no need to be afraid of "will this be what LoZ will ever be from now on?"

1

beannut_putter t1_je36c7s wrote

I am not old enough, but looking at the pattern I can tell that is what happened. I just don't want Zelda to be defined by one game only and that goes for oot and alttp as well

JohnLocke815 t1_je1azce wrote

Same this is actually the first ever Zelda (not including remakes/remasters) that I'm not buying/playing

2

PapaProto t1_je1bi6g wrote

This. Glad for people that love the vibe, but I’d rather a return to OoT-through-SS glory & feel.

I’m just done with current mainline trajectory, unless there’s something drastic we don’t know about Tears.

Gimme WW&TP remasters on Switch! Give me a brand new Top-Down entry, or Minish Cap & Oracle remakes!

compguy42 t1_je2k4fr wrote

As someone who was of age to play LoZ from the original release to now, this is DEFINITELY my LoZ and I'm thrilled with the direction. BotW reminded me so much of the original and what it felt like to play it back then, before the series got bogged down by formula.

1

PapaProto t1_je2l2xs wrote

I just love the core formula.

Change some things yeah, like new forms as Wolf Link, mechanics & traversal Sailing, or Minish sizing up/down, Merging into walls etc as much as you like but whatever LoZ you played - they had the same core formula and charm.

BotW, fun in its own right, didn’t have what makes LoZ a LoZ - to Me.

2

compguy42 t1_je2tvop wrote

I totally get that, and that's valid. I think maybe a better way to say what I feel is that after OOT, the 3D Zeldas slowly started to lose me because I could never shake the feeling that I was playing "OOT But X" (sailing, wolf, etc). BotW was the first 3D Zelda to make me feel like I felt playing the 2D Zeldas again.

That's not to say I thought the 3D Zeldas were bad games. Not at all. But after a certain point, I didn't feel the connection to the franchise I once had, until BotW pulled me back in.

1

PapaProto t1_je3zlpe wrote

There it is. You’ve actually summed it up well - “OoT but X” is, in essence, what I want.

1

lordloroloro t1_je1cdx5 wrote

The previous game was one of the best singleplayer games ever made, if it aint broke, dont fix it. I think they went the right way focusing on opening up creativity options than making graphic enhancements, to end up with something pretty on the outside but empty on the playability end.

2

Chewsdayiddinit t1_je3por4 wrote

Hard disagree, with the implementation of weapon durability or ruined the franchise. Never has been a part of zelda, and never should have been.

1

Wizards_Win t1_je5gnl7 wrote

BOTW was a reasonable 6/10, I'd expect the same here.

2

Nuqo t1_je1cuj9 wrote

What they've shown doesn't really make me more excited. What I imagine they're holding back does. Dungeons, tons of new content, etc. They had 6 years to work on this building off the base of the original, theres gonna be plenty of new stuff to explore and if you like the original, its gonna look and play the same at its core.

1

dainfamous06 t1_je263x4 wrote

Yea I hope this is the case. I liked the first one enough despite not finishing it, though it seems gimmicky gameplay is the new direction of LoZ. Online coop w/ Zelda and Link might be fire though.

Dated in terms of graphics, no.

Boring? My only comparison is BOTW so at the moment it's really hard to tell even with the new gameplay being shown (Though very limited) if it is just going to be the same experience all over again.

I really hope it isn't. But they've not given us much to go on.

If they're really hinging this games success on the ability to glue items together I will be thoroughly disappointed.

1

Dr4zhar t1_je4qpf5 wrote

Yeah, we all saw that graphics are basically the same, gameplay is basically the same and mechanics are probably gonna be the same with mild additions.

Like Zelda games always presented huge developments compared to the previous ones. They've always been average games that captured us with lore, characters, setting and nostalgia. Maybe they were innovative some 1 or 2 decades ago, now it's just gonna be your umpteenth 3rd person action rpg but this time the protagonist is Link.

1

MilenaShadow t1_je5mqn0 wrote

I don't know what to think honestly... I'm excited because I love the series and have played every zelda game, but I'm apprehensive because new games these days are getting lower in quality somehow.. Sure they all look real nice but the gameplay, story, etc is bare minimum effort. I loved botw minus the weapons breaking every 2 seconds but I hope they bring back some sort of dungeons I didn't mind the shrines as a pseudo replacement but typical zelda dungeons would have been better. I really hope it doesn't just feel like a reskin job of botw with minor changes to the landscape.

The Nintendo Fanboys dont care. They are used to getting the same shit over and over again. If Nintendo just re-released Mario 64 without any changes for 60€ they would fucking buy it.

Alternative_Gold_993 t1_je1tyxa wrote

It looks exactly the same as Breath of the Wild. That isn't in itself a bad thing, but I feel like Nintendo just refuses to innovate, anymore, let alone make better use of it's MANY ip's beyond Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon.

0

OokySpookums t1_je1nku3 wrote

Reddit mobiles restrictions are not a good excuse for everything it is you're doing here.

I don't see anything as black and white as you do. Games don't just simply suck or are absolute perfection. There's a scale to everything.

If the game unequivocally sucked, nearly everyone would hate it. Which they don't.

I don't think the game is great, it has things I don't like. But listing those things out doesn't detract from the good aspects.

So to outright say it sucks because of some problems is such an amateurish response.

Haunting-Pop-5660 t1_je1paqe wrote

It's not an excuse for everything I'm stating here. It's an explanation - which you don't deserve - for why the formatting was bad. Your reading comprehension is still failing you miserably here. I don't think attempting to argue a moot point with me (to denigrate an opinion, no less, because you don't agree) is the best use of your time when you clearly have other things you need to work on.

Finally, amateurish in what way? Care to elucidate? If you can.

Amateur, your opinions are amateur. You can't critically analyse. Hence, amateur.

Using words like "Elucidate" doesn't do a great job of hiding that fact.
