Hello! I am aware you’ve read and answered a lot of the same questions of “which console to purchase?” But I would really appreciate some advice, as Redditors always pull through better than google searches and bloggers. I’ve also posted this in r/consoles before finding out this sub exists.

I am a retired gamer (I’m in my late 20’s) but I want to pick it back up as a potential hobby for me and my partner. I used to own a PS2, and my partner had a PS1, and we both loved our consoles to bits. We do not own any PCs at the moment.

Generally speaking, we don’t plan on gaming with other friends, but don’t mind gaming with strangers; love GTA, sho0ting/k*lling games, adventure/quest/farming games are okay as well.

Only planning on getting one console, and currently do not have any games on hand.

So should we get PS/Xbox/Nintendo? Thanks!

If your casual gamer i would advise a xbox series S or X plus gamepass, gamepass is a subscription service by Microsoft which offers 100s of games for 12,99 a month it’s a great way to test a variety of game without breaking the bank, perfect for someone just getting back into gaming.

That sounds like a plausible starting plan. I read that the S is disc free but small memory, which is one of my concerns for it

Well depends on your expectations if you just want to dip a toes into water just as a casual thing the series S + gamepass is a cheap way to see if you still enjoy that hobby, if you’re more serious about it and can spare the extra bucks than go for the series X + gamepass you’ll get a better experience and more storage.

Xbox: Has gamepass. Generally on par with PlayStation in multiplat games. Gets less exclusives and the ones it does get are also on PC.

PlayStation: Generally on par with Xbox in multiplat games. Gets more exclusives and they take longer to get to the PC, if they ever do.

Switch: Can go between console and handheld. Doesn't always get the games that are on PlayStation/Xbox. Its exclusives rarely go to PC.
