I'm searching for games to play where i would come across some emotionally heavy moments in the scenario, but a lot of the games that are praised for that kind of stuff have a really "slow" gameplay. For exemple, i know last of us 1 and 2 are praised by the fans for the scenario, but when i tried the first game, i was quickly bored by the heavy controls, some sort of "lack of freedom" in the movements, can't really describe the feeling i had. And it's even worse when i'm playing stuff like a Telltales game, i can't really stay focused on the scenario because my hands need to play.

A lot of the games with a scenario i enjoyed were FPS/Immersive sim with enjoyable movements (Half Life series, Titanfall 2 story mode, Dishonored series, Portal series, Metroid Prime series, etc...) so maybe i should search for more games in that direction, but i still want to discover games in other areas.

TL;DR: What are games you've played where you came for the gameplay but got hit by the story (or at least a part of the story) ?

(Sorry, english isn't my native language, i'm trying my best)

Undertale hit me pretty hard at parts. Don't wanna give any spoilers so I'll just say the waterfall music makes me sad

I recommend Rimworld everywhere I go. And will do so here.

The gameplay seems very simple on the surface until you have to manage gathering crops with a tribal raid and an insect infestation all at the same time

Mass Effect.

It was the only game series in which I genuinely fell in love with the characters and felt high degrees if emotions during the plot lines and cut scenes.

Bioware games in general used to be great at this. Mass effect, baulders gate and of course, the kotor games.
