> I don't think God Of War deserved GOTY in 2018 over RDR2
I couldnt disagree more with you, even Celeste deserved it more than RDR2
RDR2 was and still is an epic environment, game, and story. Are you basing your dislike on the multiplayer or something?
Imo it is the greatest open world game of all time but it is a close call. Linear ass GOW was overhyped then and is now.
While GOW are good games, I'm not gonna argue that, they are very much on rails and Ragnarok literally holds your hand as you play. RDR2 was much more immersive.
I completely agree with you.
Im basing my dislike on one of the most boring gameplay witnessed by mankind till this day lol
Celeste wasn't that great of a game. RDR2 was definitely on the level of GOW, if not higher.
Imo, RDR2 and Celeste were both equally deserving of GOTY over GoW.
God of war winning goty over rdr2 in 2018 is the biggest crime in gaming history in 2022 elden ring deserves it because it’s innovating it changed the open world formula while god of war Ragnarok is still your classic game
May I asked what Elden Ring innovated on open world formula?
Lack of handholding, worldbuilding
Isn't that something that has been done before, and even better, by BoTW?
No, not by a long shot.
Ok if there's anything Elden Ring did, haven't seen it. Maybe I didn't play it long enough.
It’s not lack of handholding for me it’s the immersion and that you always find interesting stuff while traversing in the world look at ac for example the map is boring and lifeless
It’s the first game to successfully follow the formula of BotW’s open world, but did it better. Everything you see in the distance that looks interesting is interesting. You can travel to it immediately if you’re skilled enough and the sense of wonder and discovery is arguably the greatest in any game ever created.
It’s innovation is a bit more subtle because it’s really innovating on top of BotW’s innovation. Like, for me, Elden Ring is more-so revolutionary than it is innovating. But regardless, it truly is a once in a generation type of game.
Your first paragraph literally describes Skyrim.
I haven’t played Skyrim so I guess I don’t know. But everyone seemed to talk about BotW’s open world being a new and innovative type of open world. And that’s the way Elden Ring’s open world is as well. So that makes me assume that most people don’t view Skyrim’s open world as the same as ER/BotW.
Again though, haven’t played Skyrim. I do plan on it soon tho with it being on PS+!
While I agree that elden ring is going to win and deserves it, I see this argument a lot and simply can not agree with it and I think it's wrong and it's just people ignoring that certain games exist. Elden ring did not innovate or changed anything, the formula used by elden ring has been done before especially by Zelda games, wind waker comes to mind and Breath of the Wild is pretty much the exact same formula, it's just that instead of a cartoonish and more childish style it has a Dark souls style to it with a darker tone and tougher boss battles, imo Darksouls itself is way more innovative than Elden ring.
Once again no hate towards Elden ring, it is my pick for goty and I think it's totally deserved.
Bro if you look at it this way every game is a reskin of each other it’s just copy and paste with your own sauce on top
Pretty much yeah, I mean it's inevitable with the amount of games that there are out here nowadays it is difficult to create something new and innovative, so most good games try to add a good "sauce" to it, which is what elden ring did.
This. I dont give 2 ****s about goty knowing that
Elden Ring, I guess.
People are always saying elden ring brought something new to the table which I couldn't see. I played for like 25 hours I guess then stopped because I couldn't beat those two bosses. I don't watch youtube guide so I just stopped right there as I don't have time to get good.
On the other hand, Ragnarok felt like a dlc, it's the same PS4 game basically, but I enjoyed it mostly and was able to finish it just fine.
So either way, whoever wins, I don't really have strong opinion.
Good luck to both games.
I would say it will probably be Elden Ring but I’m good with either it or God of War winning this year
Vampire Survivors
I’m just glad Xenoblade 3 was nominated. It was the most fun I had with a game this year and it’s world, characters, story and music will stick with me above others. But objectively, Elden Ring and God of War each deserve to win, for different reasons.
Sonic Frontiers
i'm more akin to thinking elden ring will win it.
however, what I can 100% predict is no matter who wins there will be frothing seething fan boys upset theirs didn't win.
What I think will win? God of War: Ragnarok. What I want to win? Elden Ring.
Not a chance, Elden Ring totaly won, not only small amount of time for GOW to get much viewers and attention, but fr, souls like with this score vs **singleplayer** game, not only wining in Europe But in Asia and Indie, so it was Game over even before release of GOW
My personal game of the year is Tiny Rogues. But as far as bigger games I'm leaning Elden Ring. Wouldn't be made about GoW winning either
Unpopular opinion but stray
Game of the year according to who?
To....................us?
He’s saying according to who because in most video game award shows, public vote doesn’t actually account for a large percentage of the vote
I meant according to which publication or website, as there doesn't seem to be an agreed upon source. therefore, all this GOTY talk seems pointless if it could be different based on the organization.
idk bro lol
Exactly, all of this game of the year talk amounts to nothing. None of it matters.
I ain't awarding shit to no one.

okay
For my GOTY award, I will only be considering games I have personally played this year, and basing that decision on my own subjective opinion. As such, I would like to announce this year's winner of the RBJ Game of the Year: Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord! Best narrative award goes to Horizon: Zero Dawn, Unexpected Rockstar award goes to Vampire Survivors, and my special "Still together after all these years" award goes to 7 Days to Die. Notable omissions/better luck next year pending price drops: Elden Ring (haven't played, probably won't,) God of War: whatever subtitle this time (Never been interested in the series, probably won't,) Stray (I mean, the videos are cute, but is there an actual fun game in there? Maybe, if I get bored enough.) Anything else you think should be on this list? Comment below and I'll tell you why you're wrong! Have a great day!

And you obviously didn't read the listed criterion for yhe RBJ awards, so your comment is invalid. Thank you, come again!
My bad I read it over again.
My god you’re a loser
For having a different opinion from you? Pfft. I'll wear that label as a badge of honor, then. Fuck all this samethink mentality.
Yes. For only playing all those old ass games when we possibly got the game of the generation released early this year. I can just tell you are a loser.
Your vitriol on the subject is very telling about your insecurity.
You’re very defensive. Just accept your loser status and move on.
Hey, I owned that in my first reply but here you are acting like you're actually saying something of value. Clearly I've triggered you somehow, is it because I don't idolize the GoW series? Because that's a pretty silly thing to get offended over....
I literally don’t care. Just pointing out that you are a loser. Move on son
Well, there's the irony, though. You don't care, but here you are responding. You're the sort who has to have the last word, I guess. I'd find that funny in the context of this conversation if it wasn't so sad.
Personally Elden Ring, the problem I see with Ragnarok is just that it is barely 2 weeks on the market so the comparison is hard there would have prefered if it was just nominatable in the next one
I'd argue recency bias is usually a huge benefit. I think Elden Ring's more likely to take it because God of War is a straighr sequel and so inherently derivative. I've also heard people be a lot cooler on it than they were with God of War 2018 in general
I love gow, but i'll have to agree with you

Elden Ring in my opinion. I don't think God Of War deserved GOTY in 2018 over RDR2 and I think Elden Ring is a better game than Ragnarok.
