We have a winner! It is indeed Guardian Legend. Had to go look up a long-play on youtube and it all came flooding back. You win an upvote and bragging rights.

Just typed it into the Windows editor and now there is a demon in my house.

Did you ask the demon what game the codes are from?

Slurpee0815 t1_iyexwn3 wrote

Yes, but it just asked me for tree fiddy

Looks like the Bubble Bobble level saves to me. Which, would mean you did a code every 5 floors basically. If not that, then something very similar in style.

Bubble Bubble is what I thought also.

Have to wait and see. I'm invested now. LOL I didn't think it was Game Genie codes as I remember some of them... like Dragon Warrior IV for inf. hp/mp was ATVATGSL. When I cleared the game and went to mess around I used them and it stuck. Thanks to...the fact that the danged Game Genie stretched the connectors and your game would die after a while. >.<

Mega man had some chunky level codes

Pretty sure Megaman save codes were all numbers though, at least for Megaman X

OG Metal Gear?

IIRC Metroid had some pretty extensive save codes also.

You should destroy that paper! It will save some poor graduate student from the future years of work trying to decipher what they will surely believe are sacred scrolls.

Castlevania maybe?

Not ringing any bells. I liked castlevania but not to this level.

Game Genie codes?

RoninRobot OP t1_iyepgzg wrote

I don’t think so. Had one but improbable. What little memory I have of it doesn’t recall game genie. In-game level codes most likely. With best lives.

I think there was save transfer between GoldenSun 1&2 on GBA that used big chunks of text like that. Thats early 2000s though ...

Ugh that brings back bad memories. Great games but fuck that code system

Are you Scandinavian, or was the game developer (whoever it may be) really that sadistic? So many accents and umlauts!

(I don't know what an umlaut is, I just wanted to say umlaut)

1

RoninRobot OP t1_iyf2x3k wrote

I do believe the Umlauts just delineate lower case from upper. Later the one dot is just to save time writing them down.

Green_Cartographer84 t1_iyf36hj wrote

Oh damn you may be right, I vaguely recall trying to make my own system to decode my own handwriting back in the day too. Sadly at nearly 40 my handwriting hasn't improved 🤣

1

RoninRobot OP t1_iyf4xwd wrote

But I don’t think this is my system. The umlauts were directly from the game, probably to alleviate confusion since case-sensitive

The Guardian Legend [NES]

Try putting TGL and leaving the rest blank for hard mode.

My guess is it’s from one of the legend of Zelda gb color games.

RoninRobot OP t1_iyf4gy0 wrote

Let’s just put this to rest: it’s definitely not from any handheld.
