Better Title: Why do so many games focus so heavily on combat?

Sorry for the poor word choice.

Fighting games are a massive genera. But is there too much? Most of the biggest games out right now include some form of combat (Elden Ring, God of war, Resident Evil, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Call Of Duty). I don't know if it is just me or I am not looking hard enough. But I do notice some other genera's like building and logic (Trailmakers) and some roleplaying games. But fighting always finds a way to sneak its way into them. Maybe people just have a natural longing to compete in some form of combat.

Considering Street Fighter 6 is so hyped, nah, but I don’t think you know what fighting games are

Your definition of "fighting game" seems very broad.

I think you’re confusing fighting games with the very broad action genre

Fighting games and games with "fighting" in them have been around since the start. Fighting games aren't going anywhere. Why would they?

None of the games you mentioned are fighting games.

It beats playing Lawnmower Simulator! Now if they made Lawnmower Wars, they have my attention

Kinda. I've been spending the last year playing Tonka trucks (Snowrunner).

That doesn't put them in the fighting game genre.

The fighting genre includes games like Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Soul Caliber, Super Smash Bros, etc.

As for what you mentioned...

Elden Ring: Action RPG.

God Of War: hack'n'slash.

Resident Evil: These ones actually kinda jump around abit, but mostly they're survival horror.

Fortnite: Third person shooter.

Apex/CoD: First person shooter.

So your actual question would be more along the lines of "Why do so many games focus so heavily on combat?"

Maybe you'd be interested in games that are tactical or simulation. Even some other genres like visual novel, point and click adventure, and racing.

You're good.

But the answer is largely power fantasies. Highly skilled warriors have been glorified throughout human history, and so being able to fill the hero role and (usually) defeat evil or prove they're the strongest without any of the real consequences scratches a certain itch alot of people have in the back of their minds.

Ahh, yes. I can see that. I can guess I am just more interested in other game genres. Such as ones involving logic and creation. My dream game that I will attempt to make in the future. Is going to be a game like Trailmakers or Scrap machenic if you ahve ever heard of it. But instead of making just vehicles or contraptions. You have the option to make ANYTHING mechanical. Buildings, Computers, infastructure, spaceships, highways, anything. All from scratch. Sort of like watching humanity evolve from simple creations to more complex. Everyone will be connected and can share their discoveries or creates to better help the virtual world. It is a very large project and I am yet to have the experience to begin such a pproject, But it really is my dream game.

I doubt games with fighting will be dying off anytime soon (chess is pretty old at this point and going strong), but it is nice to have other options.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a cool one where you work in a shipyard salvaging spaceships.

PC Building Simulator is a fun one where you do tech support on PCs.

If you're a programming nerd (or want to try out that mindset) Zachtronics puzzle games are some of my favorite puzzles ever. My two favorites are Infinifactory and TIS-100.
