A few weeks before Persona 5 released on PC I wanted to try out Persona 4 Golden and even tough I liked the opening few hours I wasn’t able to enjoy the game because of its characters and setting. I am sure that if you are still in high school or love anime this is your dream series, but it’s not for me.

Is there a game that simulates a persons day, but in a different more adult setting? Maybe you are a soldier and you have to prepare for war or a special mission and you have to train and make choices and lead a squad or be a part of a squad etc? Now that sounds like MY dream series lol.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is probably the closest thing you'll find.

I tried playing Yakuza 0, but I didn’t like the combat and having to buy drinks from 4 different stores just to complete the prologue.

Is Yakuza Like A Dragon substantially different?

It's a very different game, it's technically a spin-off of the Yakuza franchise.

It’s got turn based combat and similar social elements, though not as much as Persona 5. It’s like Yakuza and Persona had a baby imo.

Your problem is you played 4, it's by far the most childish. 3 and 5 are darker. And the Shin Megami Tensei games are darker as well.
