They're cute and do exactly what they are supposed to do: make it super easy for players to differentiate each other at a quick glance when players don't have or want to go through custom skins. Anyone throwing tantrums about "wahhhh too much diversity" is dumb as hell from every viewpoint. Like sorry did y'all seriously want 9 characters that all look the same with slightly different hairstyles, thereby rendering the entire thing pointless?

It's the opposite, actually. There isn't enough diversity. Can't find myself in there, so they failed.

Personally I couldn't care less, if someone wants to play as not Steve or Alex then they should be able to do that. That said there are millions of skins available on the internet.

I like the one with the purple-ish hair, and the one that looks like they're wearing the Thriller jacket.

Wtf? Are you really crying they didn’t make a minecraft skin especially for you? However will you survive this horrific discrimination?

Just pointing out the hypocrisy. "Diversity" but never actually seems to include a particular demographic.

They're a good idea. Diversity is important, not for pr, but since it let's people who don't want to set a custom skin have a look they identify at least somewhat with (though the skins are pretty generic still and most people won't identify fully with any of them of course). Also, as someone else said, it's easier to tell people apart. This is better than the weird middle ground that was having a male and female skin, but nothing else. Either go with one skin to represent them all or go with more diversity, though the latter is better of course.

I dont think they have a purpose other than for new players. And also Java has had them for about a month or so. Its a shame they didn't release them alongside Java

Aside from Luigi it's pointless and they should have brought in the different Steves and Alexs from the console edition

Agree, having different ethnic versions of the same two characters helped keep the face of the franchise iconic.

It's nice to see the addition for people who don't want to make their own skins, but really I think this is just a thing so that people on console or bedrock editions of the game don't have to pay for extra skins. I still think the whole skin pack thing is a fucking scam and no one should ever play anything but Java minecraft, but that's just my opinion, I know there are some avid bedrock fans out there

Edit: diversity is always a good thing, the original 2 characters were absolutely whitewashed and bland. Mojang is a company that has prided itself on its diversity of its community since its conception over a decade ago, it's about time they actually added a more diverse set of free to use skins to include all types of players

Ah, Gamers.

That said, they look good but I find them pointless, in the sense that I hate that Minecraft has default vs Paid skins to begin with. When Java lets you be whatever you want.

And in a game where you can be anything, people want to be robots, monsters, celebrities, anime characters, videogame protagonists, walking genitalia, so on. No one wants to use Steve. No Black guy is waking up like fuck yeah, Black-Steve!
