Want to play goat simulator because it looks fun. Is their like an over arching story? Or can I should play goat simulator 3 and be perfectly fine?

No you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT play goat simulator without completing the goat simulator 1 campaign I recommend reading the all lore books aswell (or Atleast 1 trough 7)

You also need to get to rank 100 in the goat simulator mmo in order to fully understand the vast goat simulator universe

After having done that you may attempt to play goat simulator 3

I can give you a quick rundown if you’re ok with spoilers;

Goat Simulator 1: you’re a goat and you’re kind of a dick

Goat Simulator 2: Generally refines and polishes the definitive goat simulator experience. You’re still kind of a dick.

I haven’t had the opportunity to play the third installment yet but based on what I’ve seen, you’re still kind of a dick.

You’re more right than you know. A lot of Tony Hawk games have goat-fucking Easter eggs.
