I ran this in VorpX... in VR this game is the most anxiety inducing experience I can think of. I played for maybe 15 minutes before I had to stop, have some herbal tea, and watch 'Always Sunny' to reset my mental state.

there’s a perfectly good 6dof vr mod called MotherVR for alien isolation that runs much better than vorpx :)

Thanks for telling me but I don't really intend on playing it again. It's too nerve racking.

One of my buddies got a VR setup a couple years ago and asked me for an FPS type game he should try on it. I recommended this game.

He called me a couple days later and called me an asshole.

I guess he didn't get the Hanes Edition.

Mentioned to someone else on this post the same. Isolation is most definitely in my top 3 all time favorite horror/stealth games.

Haha, this was one of my best gaming experience… I turned it off after 30 minutes, never been so terrorized by a game.

10/10 would recommend.

I say we take off and nuke the entire game from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure

On my second run when I turned up the difficulty from baby mode to normal. I consciously banned myself from using the lockers. Otherwise, I would make zero progress and spend an hour at a time stuck in that locker looking for an opportunity. Damn ai branch learning, it had me locked down good and I’ve not seen as scary of a game since.

Yeah took me a min to realize this isn't a DOOM type game but the complete opposite. And honestly I rate isolation as one of my top 3 horror/stealth games ever. I think the slowness and being absolutely helpless besides hiding pretty much is where the true horror comes on. It's mostly all created by your own mind. And then once you tell yourself it's all in your head. You leave the locker and realized that was a terrible mistake.

Edit: if you have anything along the same lines would love some recommendations

Horror recommendations? Not that I play many or ones where you’re as helpless as Alien.

  • GTFO - co-op, slow & stressful, FPS, horror
  • Calisto Protocol - is brand new, has a shit ton of performance issues, but something about some of the enemies fundamentally makes my skin crawl. FPS, it’s dead space.

Actually dead space is one of the others in my top 3. Absolutely amazing and even through the 3rd one. But all and all Dead Space (chef kiss)

There’s an audio drama of this on Audible that’s pretty damn solid, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I decided to give this title a chance these days, my god, this game is a perfect artistic expression of the alien universe, of course the final mission sucks compared to the rest of the game (in my opinion), but the rest of the game just perfect, I NEED A CONTINUATION.

I have played through the main campaign and Ripley's campaign. Once you get over the jump scares, or learn to predict them, it gets easier. But when you open a door and it's just... there...

I also had to disable the kinect functionality.

xChiefAcornx t1_j2c4aph wrote

I think it was a DLC add-on. It wasn't nearly as extensive as the main campaign, but pretty good on its own.

Alright thanks. I’m gonna just have to replay the whole damn game to remember the controls aren’t i

The later levels in the reactor with the alien nest, I think I had a resting heart rate of about 200bpm.

Only gripe was getting really far, only to make a slight mistake and die, then having to go all the way back to a save point. I understand the reason, that it added to the tension, but I had to put it down and walk away a few times.

I enjoyed playing the game and got about 3 hours in, went to play something else with friends. Came back like 6 months later after forgetting about it, had no idea wtf I was doing, so restarted the game, got about 4 hours in, made the awful mistake of going to play something with my friends again... Came back again a month later, same issue, uninstalled, went and got the audiobook and listened to that instead haha.

I must say the audiobook is actually fantastic, I could see all the locations I'd been to in the game in my head, and so when it got to the parts I hadn't got to, I could still vividly see it, and the whole thing was just a great experience. One day I'll go back and actually finish the game haha

What if learned from games like Outlast is that sometimes you just need to make a run for it. Especially Val’s part on Outlast 2, I did NOT want to leave those safe rooms.
