There are so many games out there and many of them are amazing. But there are certain games that are so good they can even be considered to be masterpieces. I will start with mine:
- The Witcher 3
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- God of War

I thought at first that Days Gone is gonna be a generic zombie game, but after playing it I realised what a great game it is and what an amazing story it has. It surely fits into the list
I played it on release and drooped it after 3 hours. then it got the PS5 update so gave it another. So glad i did.
Just wished they forced horde nests more into actual missions.
>Borderlands 3 (Can see why it’s not for everyone)
This game is all over the place in terms of story, but it is the best of the best when it comes to looter shooters. I've sunk countless hours into this game.
can see why its not for everyone
The Last of Us Part I & II, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the BioShock series, this is a weird one but Doki Doki, Disco Elysium
My true personal masterpiece is Nier automata
Other games like Hollow Knight, Hades, Nier replicant, skyrim, etc. are all absolutely amazing, but can't compare to the experience of Nier automata
God of War
Hollow Knight
Final Fantasy XV
Rimworld
Dead Space
God of War
Last of Us
I wanna say Skyrim too.
Persona 5 Royal
GOW/Ragnarok
TLoU
Witcher 3
Bloodborne
FF7 Remake
Persona 5
Mass Effect 2
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
Obviously GTA
LittleBigPlanet 2
Dark Souls 3, Dead Space 1, Red Dead Redemption 1, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, Ys 8 Lacrimosa of Dana, Final Fantasy 9, Resident Evil Remake, Silent Hill trilogy, the entire Trails series
Mass effect legendary edition, Fallout 4, Saints row 4, Horizon zero dawn and Forbidden west, Doom eternal, Total war warhammer 3 immortal empires, Civilization 5, Far cry 3.
Baldur's gate 2
Loved Observer
It really sucked me in. I played that game the whole day for like 9 hours and beat it that night. It had classic horror elements with a sci fi twist, eerie future crimes and an amazing OST. I am excited about playing the redux.
The reason I loved it was because of how well they told the story through symbolism in the “neural interrogation” segments. It wasn’t an in your face story but I could tell what was going on.
I might have missed that I will play it again for sure.
Oh you mean like seeing what happened with everyone?
Yeah like the one section where there’s the TV puzzle that has a light that closes the doors is one of the best ones to show how the character was feeling.
I don't think I ever drew a connection from that to the character's feelings. On my playthrough of redux I'll keep this in mind.
It symbolized her feeling like she was being held back by her baby. In order to progress she felt like she would be abandoning her baby.
Final Fantasy XIV
NieR Replicant
Minecraft
Final Fantasy VII Remake
The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion
Both Red Dead games (story telling doesn't get better than this)
Fallout New Vegas (absolute best Western rpg)
Dishonored (the best stealth game out there)
Doom Eternal (the greatest single player shooter ever)
Skyrim (the world in this game is just so cool)
GTA4 (this game with both DLC's is the definitive gta game)
Bioshock 1 and infinite (no explanation needed)
Halo 3,Reach, and odst (these games are just works of art)
I'd say the Ori games probably fit there.
here's mine:
These 3 will be on the top for a long time.
Frostpunk
OP's list is the true one plus maybe TlouP2 & Bloodborne if i had to add something
Last Stand Deadzone: RIP
Funny thing is my favorite Videogame presses all the right buttons on me and I am overly obssesed with it but I dont think its a masterpiece. A gem meybe but meybe even that is pushing it. A good solid game yeah I am more comfortable describing it as such.
Do I know any Masterpiece? The first that comes to mind is Kirby and the Forgotten Land. That one is pretty amazing.
Honestly for the most 'this is why videogames are a thing' moment I gotta say Helldivers is a masterpiece. Shared screen so you always see what everyone is doing, gigantic skill ceiling, goofy fun to be had mechanics upon mechanics.
It's just one of those games that give you that good fun game feeling when you're playing
Mass Effect 3, but only if you’ve also played 1&2.
Portal
Age of Empires 2
TIE Fighter
NBA Jam/NFL Blitz
Minesweeper
Commander Keen
Minesweeper, one legendary game

Nobody, because for me the subjective masterpiece does not exist and for that reason I do not consider any videogame a masterpiece.
But couldn't you say that about other types of arts as well? Do you think there is a game that is an "objective" masterpiece? Like it's that good overall and it's not a matter of opinion
I think the definition of a masterpiece exists for a reason.
In my opinion people use the word masterpiece to indicate a game that they
really liked, that emotion him, with which he had fun etc ... but the emotions,
the fun, the boredom etc ... They are subjective things and vary from person to
person. I do not think I have the necessary skills to define which game is
objectively a masterpiece or which are masterpieces in other arts, but the
definition of masterpiece is: a work of art such as a painting, movie, book,
etc. that is an excellent, or the best, example of the artist's work, for video
games a masterpiece should be a game that excels in all its parts (I have
almost), for example a game that is perfect in gameplay and in its other
parts, or the best work of an author could be considered the one who created a game, a mechanic etc ... which then became a reference point and/or revolutionized the video game industry.
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
Monkey Island 1, 2, 3.
Grim Fandango.
Sam & Max Hit the Road.
I’m gonna be that guy and say Death Stranding
Now I can 100% see why the majority of people will not enjoy this game.
But for myself it was more than a game, it was a relatability experience.
A desolate land yet so full of life, no positive interactions with anyone except for the like meter, nobody to communicate with yet a huge community playing as you do. Sound familiar?
To start with, what made this game a masterpiece to me was the music, the music in this game is so depressing (don’t be so serious) yet at times inspiring (asylum for the feeling). These songs would appear at certain parts of the map or missions, the tone of the songs would fully match the tone of the landscapes.
See dead land que sad song, see a settlement you haven’t explored yet que inspirational music.
The story is so confusing yet so gripping. The mood and atmosphere matched a period in my life when I was so alone and thinking about finishing things. Then journeying through with Sam Porter Bridges, his grit and determination to bring America back to a civilised nation.
And let’s not forget about one of the most underrated badass characters in video game history, Clifford Unger. Every scene he was in was absolutely thrilling, the scene in the sewers where we are introduced to him, goosebumps.
Dark souls, sekiro, bloodbourne, elden ring, project zomboid, rocket league, dota2, hollow knight, botw, trackmania, cod zombies pre 4, borderlands 2, l4d2, starcraft 2, the last of us, star fox 64, majoras mask, resident evil 1 and 2, 7, re4 on wii, Mario oddessy, xcom2...
Honestly this could go on for a while, I gotta stop somewhere.
There's a few others that I can't think of right now
Dark souls 3, sekiro, elden ring, bloodborne.

Only a handful of game have kept my attention from beginning to end. So with that said, I’m pretty sure they fall into the masterpiece category for me personally.
Last two God of War’s
Last of Us Part 1 and 2
Days Gone (Can see why it’s not for everyone)
Witcher 3
Borderlands 3 (Can see why it’s not for everyone)
Horizon Zero Dawn
The Forest
