Mass Effect 3 almost everybody hates it because of the endings but if you look past the last 15 minutes it's overall a great game.

I didn't even dislike the endings. Not everything needs to give me tons of choices and chain reactions. I loved the story and loved the third game as well. ME2 is still my favorite but ME3 is a very close second.

Batman Arkham Origins for the Batman Arkham series.

It does have its issues but Origins has a solid story & the best boss fights in the entire series. It even gave us a great Deathstroke fight that wasn’t in a tank.

Critically: Ultimate Spider-Man got fairly meh reviews (and admittedly it did have some very repetitive gameplay), but the pure comic style was quite innovative, solid story with challenging bosses, I still think it's the only Spider-Man game that has made playing as Venom feel like Venom and not a watered-down Spidey, IIRC it was also the first open-world Spider-Man game (don't quote me there).

Fan perspective: GTA IV receives a lot of pushback for being basically the antithesis of a GTA game, but I commend it for having the guts to live outside the franchise comfort zone and think it's the second-best GTA game.

Niko is very intricate and moldable vs. other GTA main characters being either ripoffs or essentially an avatar, the humor and overall tone is very dark and more subtle than the classic "in-your-face" absurdism GTA is known for, cars have weight and physics, it's prob. the least "world as your sandbox" GTA game/not built for mindless rampages. Some of that's better, some worse imo., but I commend it.

Resident Evil Revelations.

The best non mainline game in the series and it's better than a couple of the mainline games.

I played through a lot of Revelations 2, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Resident evil survivor. That game was hated for being first person and now the idea is loved.

Dead space 3. Most would say it killed the franchise but I loved that game. It's unfortunate it was seen that way. We got callisto protocol instead of dead space 4. Yuck. Hopefully the remake gets this bad taste out of my mouth.

The OG silent hill. I love silent hill 2 and love the remake idea but a part of me hates that the original was overlooked. It was passed over. The Fredo of the franchise.

There's others. But these 3 have been on the mind lately.
