I love exploring and finding notes littered through a game world detailing past lives of people in the game. Fallout’s terminals, Horizon’s data points for example. What are some other games that come to mind that reveal their lore this way?

The witcher, the elder scrolls, mass effect, star wars knights of the old republic.

I never liked lore hidden in terminals/notes. I prefer lore delivered in dialogues. Mass Effect 1 is a good example, having conversations with NPC or different races might be the most enjoyable part of the game.

I would say either Assassin's Creed or Horizon ZD/FW

The Division series. From Div 1 to 2 it's a continuous story line with updates that changes the story , books published as side missions, more videos are beautiful from NGN in Utube. Pretty extensive. Audio and video logs detail a lot and are an integral part of the story

Prey! Loved reading stuff and seeing it a little while later. I just love the attention to detail and the hidden mysteries. There are people on their second or third preythroughs finding the transcribes and notes about the hidden >!stash in some the red alarm bells across the station!<, just shows how easy it is to miss things.

Darksouls or really any of the soulsborne got that soft world building you're looking for

I know not everyone loves the gameplay but Hollow Knight has a neat way of delivering lore as they let you piece things together instead of just outright telling.

The Fables series has some excellent lore hidden in the game. Once you start to read more on the King, Queen and Jack of Blades it gets interesting

Came here to say this, though it's probably quite expensive to pick them up at this point. Does Dread do it as well? Return of Samus was missing it, which I really didn't like because scanning everything was one of my favorite parts of Prime.

God, the surprisingly not that hidden note in HR that explained that they really only needed to replace your heart and left arm and that the rest of your body was just because your contract allowed it and they wanted a supersoldier.

Outer Wilds. That's the whole game--and solving the mystery behind what the lore is telling you, and putting the pieces together to give the universe a new life.
