I have two of them

  1. Neir Automata. Initial storyline was a little confusing. Slow to develop. Wasn’t the prettiest to look at. The map was confusing to me at the time for some reason.

Came back to it way later in the year and loved the characters, multiple story endings, gameplay variation, and just the overall tone/soundtrack.

  1. Wasteland 3. Originally also slow to develop. I already have a hard time getting into isometric RPGs. Was focusing too much on the side quests to level up. Was leveling up the wrong skills. Because of that not hitting the dialogue or environmental skill check

Picked it back up two years later for Christmastime. Killed my first Scorpitron and immediately got reattached to the game. Now I’m back into the loot drops, main quest lines, got my perks back on track. Enjoying the strategic combat. I’m appreciating more of the entertaining dialogue and dynamic choice and consequence

This is the one. Monster Hunter World was my first MH and I hated it at first because of the awful new-player experience it presents. It took me a couple tries at it, but now it's one of my all-time favorites.

I played the demo for Rise first and could not for the life of me figure it out, even on the simpler weapons. Got the Stories spinoff, fell in love with it, and went back to the demo to give it another shot and finally managed to get it to click.

Bloodborne. It was my first Souls game and I died at the first enemy I encountered and said "fuck it, that's ridiculous" because I did so little damage. Turned the game off, and took a year or so to bother putting the game back in. I didn't know at the time these types of games had a learning curve and thought I'd be getting your bog-standard RPG game with next to no difficulty.

Actually giving the game another shot sparked a love for Soulsborne games that I nearly missed out on.

Dragon's Crown

Expected it to be more like Odin Sphere, picked Sorceress which I did not enjoy playing as and had a massive cold/headache combo which made me feel like shit.

Came back 2 years later without the expectations and cold/headache, and played Fighter instead of Sorceress. Put 76 hours into it and got the Platinum, then put in another 15-20 hours playing as Dwarf, which I enjoy even more than Fighter now.

Monster Hunter World

Tried the demo back in 2017 or 2018 and did not really enjoy my time with it.

Wanted to give it another shot due to successful cross-game promotion with Rathalos being a fight and mount in FFXIV, and with me hearing and loving the Seliana theme on youtube. I also just kept seeing it on sale every time I checked my go-to shop for buying games.

Picked Hammer instead of Longsword like I did in the beta, Instantly vibed with the bonk stick. put 170 hours into it in 4 weeks. I want to put in even more hours but am waiting to get a PS5 so that the Grinding Lands loading times don't suck so bad.

Horizon zero dawn. Just couldn't get into it when it launched on ps4. Wasn't my thing. Just got Plat playing on the ps5. I still blame the new console smell but holy crap I had a blast

Tales of Vesperia - I put about 5 hours into it and it just wasn’t doing it for me back when it first came out. Gave it another go with the re-release and got the platinum, absolutely love the game.

Man. This thread has only 9 comments right now and Nier, Monster Hunter, and Dragon’s Crown have already been mentioned from my personal list of shame - which isn’t a big list, I usually stick with it! Going to have to give those 3 another shot

Yep, mine too. I expected dark souls like fighting mechanics with quick movements and dodgerolls with animation canceling. Hated how you're stuck in your animations and can't even turn your character properly in a combo.

Tried it sometime again and watched some guides on youtube. Once i got the system, i went full "moving fortress" with the lance. Halfway through i thought "i like the playstyle, but i'd like to have more aggressive attacks for big openings (like knockdowns). Then i came to discover the arts of shoving a giant handcannon in a dragons nostril and pulling the trigger.

I've gotten RDR2 to run in VR, and aside from horseback being nauseating as hell, it runs great in VorpX.

Keep in mind it's not proper VR, as it still uses mouse/keyboard to control and VR to look around- but RDR2 is way more hardware intensive than prey.
