Hey, I'm looking for a game for myself and 3 or 4 of my friends to commit to that provides some sort of long-term progression system so that we can commit to playing it for a while. What are the best games you all know that fit this idea? We are pretty open to ideas so if it even vaguely fits it is a welcome idea!

Sounds like you want Deep Rock Galactic or Vermintide 2. Both are co-op games based on doing missions with friends. And after missions you do the long-term progression part where you slowly improve your characters before going on more missions. Also maybe Risk of Rain 2

Great suggestions! We played Risk of Rain 2 for quite a while so that's right in line with what we'd be looking for

met some cool people playing Zombie Army 4. its 4 player coop. its finite but has plenty of hours gameplay, and the weapon progression was fun for me

Things like Diablo 2 ladder or Path of Exile are nice, and the reset provides a fresh incentive to play if you ever get bored of the endgame runs. Otherwise, the most longform play I've ever gotten with friends outside of D&D is Minecraft. Just starting up a server and building cool things together. No real progression past getting good tools, though.

Divinity original sin 2 is a lot of fun for 4 people.

Risk of Rain Returns (after its released, since youve already played RoR2)

Gunfire Reborn

Deep Rock Galactic

Escape from Tarkov

Valheim

Terraria

Minecraft

Maaaaaaaybe "Stardew Valley"?

If you dont mind a F2P with Pay2Progress and some borderline P2W Mechanics, "World of Tanks" maybe?

An online party of Anno (1404, 2070 or 1800)? They can go on for long, but pretty much everybody has to play at the same time.

Maybe either DayZ or the DayZ Origin Mod of Arma 2?

If you hate yourself and your friends you can always play ark.

Try the multiplayer in Project Zomboid. You can tailor your playthrough using various configurations and mods, too, so you can do multiple playthroughs as well.

World of warcraft? We had a blast playing it a few years ago. Not sure how the game is doing right now though.

I'm not sure how WoW is but if it turns out to be in a state FFXIV is doing great.
