Looking at the $50 worth dead space remake and on ps5 it's $70, almost threw up and shit myself at the same time. Went on steam and its $60 old school price. Why the difference at all? and don't say "because discs man". The disc doesn't mean anything. Digital and Disc is the same amount of space used on the console

It is the price Sony decided on their PS5, nothing else. Sony takes just as much as Steam, as does Microsoft on Xbox. I believe Microsoft will be following Sony in the new pricing, which means we will probably see price increases on Steam.

You can see it on Horizon Forbidden West. The PS4 version was $10 cheaper than the PS5 version - 60 compared to 70.

If you buy a game for Playstation there is only 1 market. If you go find a physical disc somewhere on sale then you'll get it for that price... but on PC you've got a dozen popular marketplaces and ebay steam keys and humble bundle and Fanatic.

Usually you can get a new release for $40 or less within' a month or two of launch if you do you're diligent.

30% for Playstation, but Microsoft has some very indie friendly policies- at flat $3,000. So they SHOULD be the cheapest venue, though I believe those savings get translated into their gamespass.

After playing for 3 hours I can definitely say it’s worth $70 and if I get ten hours out of it that’s $7 an hour which is cheaper than buying lunch

The price of new release videogames hadn't increased for two decades. I remember when they jumped to $60 from $50. To be honest the $70 price tag, while obviously kinda sucks, shouldn't be surprising at this point, especially considering how inflation has hit basically everything else.

Epic will make deals with people for various reasons, timed exclusivity is one they practice. Steam used to as well but for some reason stopped doing it a couple years ago. Then, like I said, if your game is made in the unreal engine they offer additional benefits. It would be hard to pin down an exact amount you would be paying without taking all that into account. 30% is just what it costs by default.

I use that analogy as well to justify if a price is worth it or not. Like STRAY was 40 or 50 dollars? But it was so short it didn't feel justified for me. It has an okay story and costed about 10 dollars and hour to play. Should of been $30 at release.

But you also have you're own opinions. Where I find the last of us part 1 well worth the pricetag. I enjoyed dead space at launch, but not enough to spend $70 on it for a remake.

I also take into consideration the effect of inflation. In 2008 when dead space was first released the game was 60$ which is equivalent to almost 80$ now so selling the game at 70$ they are actually losing money in terms of inflation. Not to mention that games have been the same price for decades I’m suprised it took this long for them to raise the price

I get what you mean and used to agree with it but my opinion has changed a bit with time.

I have not played either Stray or Dead Space for the record but I used to value games based on the hours it gives you and as I grew up and started having less time, I started taking into account the quality of those hours.

For example, most new assassin's creed games can give you hundreds of hours but for me it almost feel like a chore because of how repetitive and/or boring it can get so it ends up not being $60/70 for me and then I play a shorter indie game like Tunic or Death's Door and I feel that they are totally worth it.

My point is, I can't meassure games by hours of content anymore and sometimes even value shorter games more. Like eating a huge bowl of bland rice vs eating a very tiny dessert that blows your mind

Value is relative and a very personal metric so we can all have different opinions

You're spot on. I try to tell this to my family when they drop $60 on a brand new game. They play it for 3 hours and then that's it. They don't touch it for awhile. They work full time and have 2 days off and have a backlog of games to play. To me, it's a waste unless you're playing the heck out of it.

The value of the game is relative to your own life style. If you are only willing to fully immerse yourself into a game for a couple hours a week... wait for the price to drop unless it is one of those titles you just can't wait to have (like for me it would be FF7 rebirth when it comes out).

Exactly. I rarely play games that are released that same year. I have a full time job, a wife and a kid. If a game is too long and feels like a chore I drop it immediately.

I even sold my pc and got a steam deck because it was the only way I could put a few extra hours a week in games. I may not be playing games at 1440p144hz but at least I actually play them now

Man same. We must be living similar lives because I'm in the same boat. I work evening shifts full time and when I have time off, I'm just too tired to play or do anything.

My sis is a gamer so I gave her my PC and got myself the steam deck because I work out of state and I like the portability of the Steam Deck. It's light, well-shaped, and has the performance capabilities to run the games I tend to enjoy. I don't even play the games at 60 FPS. I don't need high-end graphics that show the detail of all 42 muscles of the human facial expression for me to enjoy the game.

So recently, I've been playing Elden Ring and Final Fantasy 15 since November, and both games were bought by my sis. I'm mostly trying to earn the value that she paid for the games (full price) to justify the purchases she made. And I do not intend to buy any new games until I get 100% achievements of the games I am playing.

So like you were saying in your posts, even if you play the game that you purchased at full price. Let's say you did beat the game. Another question is, how do you consider your game is truly "beaten" or completed? Is it just by completing the basic main story or do you have to complete all the side quests, gather all the items, see all the alternative endings, etc etc? For me, I'm a completionist so I aim for the achievements after I complete the game to a level where I feel like I have fully seen and experienced all the content the developer intended the gamer/audience to experience.

Even the completion of a videogame is left to one's opinion and how they determine the value of money spent on the experience of playing the game itself.

Sorry for such a long post and thanks for reading. Glad to see I'm not completely alone in this mode of thinking.

I am not a completionist at all. I go hunting for secrets if there is a motivation in the game to do it but have not 100% a game in a very long time.

I consider a game to be beaten when I finish the story and maybe some sidequests that I found interesting but I never push myself to collect things or going for alternate endings unless I really feel like wanting to. Basically when the credits roll I consider the game beaten but on a few ocasions I keep going after the credits roll.

Also, I beat Elden Ring on the Steam Deck from start to finish and it ran great, 0 issues. I loved it. One of the few games I kept playing after the credits roll
