Beautiful and terrifying is about where I’d settle

Some of the scariest places I can imagine.

Water rests on the top, melting downwards trying to reach the bottom, when it reaches it, it breaks through and makes a river on top that leads to a hole that goes sometimes hundreds of feet to the bottom.

Imagine swimming in this peaceful blue glacial water(ice worms btw) and then you hear 'crack'. Suddenly your gentle blue pool is a massive toilet about to take you for a ride to the bottom, never to be seen again.

Nope. I'm not going to imagine that.

Since nobody asked, what do you mean by "ice worms" because my brain immediately jumped to a scary sounding parasite

Just like it sounds like, worms that live in ice.

Exactly. Don't ever be one of the people who wants to eat glacial ice or put it in your drink.

When I was in Iceland on a glacier the guide told me explicitly to not drink the water because it's filled with bad bacteria and actually dehydrates you

-Neverender- t1_j8lmue3 wrote

Which is a nice way of saying that it will give you the shits.

I was just in Iceland and did the classic snorkelling tour and the guide said we could drink the water if it gets in our snorkel.

smbtuckma t1_j8ltek2 wrote

Lol when I was in Iceland climbing a glacier the guide encouraged us to drink the water, and it was the purest-tasting water I’ve ever had. Didn’t get sick, but can’t tell you whether or not that was just lucky.

Cluelessish t1_j8mf95f wrote

Maybe the guide had pooped in the water last week.

I want a glass of that water the next time I’m hungover

7

firesloth t1_j8loeio wrote

Oh, great. Another person who thinks water is some kind of magical cure-all. Let me tell you, kid, a glass of water isn't going to fix all your problems, especially not a hangover. It's just like any other beverage, like a flavorless iceberg lettuce or a bland cauliflower. Sure, it can hydrate you and maybe even help with some of the symptoms, but it's not going to make all your pain go away. And if you're the kind of person who's getting hungover all the time, maybe it's time to take a look at your life choices and make some changes. Drinking water might help in the short term, but it's not a long-term solution to your problems. So go ahead and drink your little glass of water, but don't expect it to solve all your woes.

Glaciers are also hella dangerous.

The thing you likely don't see is that crystal clear water is a churning death machine that'll pull you down and you never be found..
