I grew up in Johnstown PA. I remember when this film was being shot. I was a kid, but it was very exciting. A few of my friends were cast in it. And I saw the Hanson brothers play at the War Memorial when the team was called The Johnstown Jets.
My friend met Paul Newman on the street. His dad saw Newman walking forwards them. He told my friend to walk up to him and introduce himself. He did it and Newman talked with them for a few moments.

The theatrical release features ‘Right Back Where We Started From’ by Maxine Nightingale as the Chief’s theme. The VHS release had to replace that and all other songs with weird stock music due to licensing disputes. When the movie was released on DVD, the rights were squared away & original, non-bizzarro soundtrack was restored

Yes. But Slapshot is an ‘Adult’ ‘R’ rated movie. Kind of rare I think. I personally appreciate that more than the many kid oriented Sports shows which are very good but at a different level and target audience.
