Having the sword turn grey doesnt illustrate it very well. It should remaind purple permanently.

Chickentacosaregood t1_is42kf9 wrote

Eh idk I like the idea of it becoming real. The more time to materialize seems solid

capnkrool OP t1_isb6zle wrote

So it looks like a lightsaber? You want George Lucas to sue me?!

UseThisToStayAnon t1_is2jxrh wrote

My only critique would be to give the sword a little more time to materialize. I mean I can tell what is happening but it feels a hair too quick before the slashing starts.

DasMotorsheep t1_is2qev0 wrote

I'd say it's fine to have it materialize quickly... I'm seeing it as a quick action, perhaps even a one-button thing: materialize the sword and strike.
What I would do is let the purple materializing effect carry on into the strike, perhaps never have the weapon go fully grey.

XeitPL t1_is36m1k wrote

First swing could be half purple half grey, then full grey and last swing again half-half to dematerialize sword.

capnkrool OP t1_isb6x0a wrote

Unfortunately, it's gotta be quick for game mechanic reasons.

Did you use Marvels Psylocke as inspiration? My take would be to make the "aura/Mana/Power" (the purple stuff) permanent.

Awesome!!! Animation are smooth and I like his expression.

I would love to see more.

Question, is it only based on medieval weaponry or can it be anything?

Anyhow I would like to see some sweet shield actions too.

Probably a bad idea to swing a sword around like that with your eyes closed

I cannot figure out this title

capnkrool OP t1_isb8hde wrote

The game takes place inside your brain. Everything is imagination and anything is possible. So I picked the most milquetoast weapon possible, a sword.

1

JasonVanJason t1_is3zs0b wrote

I think using the concept of imagination is a great idea, however when the execution of the idea of the imagination manifesting things boils down to another sword, the most tired and overused concept in gaming, it's very unimaginative.

That sword design doesn’t look very psychic, maybe give it a glow or an aura, or make it a sword that is not a sword

I imagine players would wonder why he (or they) can't manifest things much crazier than a sword. Perhaps they can though and you're only showing us the first little introductory concept.

2

capnkrool OP t1_isb94u9 wrote

Yes. There will very likely be other things to swing. This is the base item. I thought it was funny that of everything you could possibly use to inflict trauma, you pick the most cliche thing possible.

2

Anzek25 t1_is47myz wrote

It is very similar to Lamb of the cult, where your character is wearing godly hat that turns to weapon on swing and it turns back after. Devs made it so it changes to weapon so quickly I didn't even notice first, but change back is little slower, it stays in place for a moment and than flying back to your character. Only then I figured youre actually attacking with your hat

You could check it out how they made it.

So can he make unlimited blade works?

2

JonasLuks t1_is51pza wrote

There are many blades like this: Karach blade in Planescape: Torment, Conjured weapons in Elder's Scroll games, etc. The common trait among them is that you can tell at first glance that they are special. This grey sword doesn't feel that way.

Aside from that, neat animation. I like the way he steps into the swings to give increased sense of dynamic movement.

He lacks imagination.

Manifest a fireball, or a ray of disintegration. Hell, a lightsaber. Or ten grams of LSD into their mouth. Five pounds of lava on their shoes.

The animation is cool. But I find people in comic books use superpowers in dumb ways. Maybe it's just me.

Migit78 t1_is308de wrote

I'd agree, superpowers are often used in dumb ways but I also believe that's because if you used them the "smart" way you have no story.

Not sure why you are downvoted. If you can manifest a sword couldn't you just manifest a force field, grow some giant boobs and hang out?
