Nosapaw t1_j98ln44 wrote

Yes, i would say so.

The k72 are just a failure.

Hd200 pro are one of those weird Sennheiser closed backs, resembles aspects of the early momentums/hd400s and crappy entry level "studio" closed backs, so pretty lacking pinna gain, honky midrange, big phase cancellation dip at ~4khz, dip in the lower midrange, not much upper treble and a big, muddy bass.

Not the worst thing ever, but still at the very bottom of Sennheiser's releases.

Zsn pro x are just your standard chifi iem, bloated, not very dampened, and the zsn line in particular is really treble heavy and harsh.

The AirPods pro are the only ones in here that actually have some semblance of "balanced" sound.

whats a good first pair to buy? reason im interested is bc i was in the market to buy a gaming headset and was told the hyper x cloud was made to sort of copy the beyerdynamic headphones. music on the hyoer x headset sounds great so now im intrigued as to the possibilities with real headphones

15

Nosapaw t1_j98ncxj wrote

Yeah, the hyperX are honestly on the better side of gaming headphones, not bad.

If you want to upgrade, there's things to have in mind, some sound preferences, and just keeping in mind that "real" headphones could not impress you or blow you away, specially at first listen.

That being said, if you're after neutral sound, and open backs, the hd560s/6xx is among the safest recommendation to give you a glimpse of all the good stuff associated with more "serious" headphones.

But it's always better if you have an audio store to try stuff out, or at least be sure you can return your purchases.

I would recommend that I'd you have more questions or want more advice, make a post in r/headphoneadvice instead on crowding the comments in a post lol

You’re gonna call akgs bad? I know build quality is terrible but I’m using 371bt for like 3rd week of intensive usage without charging or connecting via cable. I needed to exchange one pair coz it broke but overall they’re ok. And they stayed for a few months longer than my Beats Flex I bought just to keep any wireless buds in my pocket (they seemed well suited coz they work long without need to recharge but don’t have charging cube. Plus all the weight lays on neck).

Yeah, not all AKGs are the same, i also have a pair of k371s (wired ones tho) and they're pretty good, i like them a lot (even their build quality, haven't had problems) but the k52/72/92 are probably among the worst "known brand" over ear headphones.

22

BaneQ105 t1_j98bcn7 wrote

Yep. They’re basically old open backs converted into cheap closed backs, right? I kinda think about buying modern k240 and iPod to have something slightly better than phone and wireless and something more mobile than pc and wired headphones. But that’s rather in long term. Akg 361/371BT are more prone to bend/break band due to battery and microphone stuck into it. There’s extreme horizontal force on it and only slight peace of metal keeping it in shape. If not the band I would rank them extremely high especially considering audio quality for the price.

Tonality in terms of how it sounds compared to neutral. Hd600 has a much smaller scoop than 660s2 thus making it closer to 5128 hrtf. The 660s seems to have a much worse timbre on paper too

Titouan_Charles t1_j9a5jkn wrote

You're too caught up in graphs my dude, the 600 is way too narrow and mid focused to be considered neutral. 5128 is a better tool, I agree, but it's still far from the best we can do with human ears

It depends on how much your hrtf differs from 5128 honestly. Measurements on a 43ag do show that hd600 has too much mids compared to 43ag diffuse field but on 5128 diffuse field the hd600 seems to closely match it apart from the 8khz peak that was not visible on the 43ag and the 4.5khz scoop. Meanwhile the 660s2 has some really bad dips. I already eq-ed my 600 to 660s2 and the scoop makes the neutral tonality feel off

If you're a newb, why are you buying four headphones at once? You'll never know what kind of sound signature you prefer when you're bouncing four headphones with different sonic qualities on and off your head.

Start with one. See if it fits what you seek. If not, sell or return it and move to another. Once you've found your preferred signature, then it's time to branch out with a second or third pair with different sonic qualities that may suit different types of music better.

Start in the shallow end, dude. You'll be frustrated -- and maybe broke -- by starting off the high dive.

And yeah, this may sound dickish, but ... you can do better for the money than those four cans you selected. Considerably better.

Let us know what kind of music you like. Let us know what kind of sound you prefer? Lots of bass? Midrange? Airy treble? Want a ton of detail or a relaxed sound? Then we can give you recommendations.

The airpods is nice, but maybe you can buy the 7Hz Crinacle Zero or Truthear Hola if you want a wired IEM. About the over-ear, the M50x is a great closed-back (it's not perfect, but the build quality is acceptable, and you can do some EQ on it), and the HD560s or Hifiman Ananda it's a good point to go if you want some open-backs.
