I was between these or the 32 ohm Beyerdynamic 990 editions. Beyer was oos so I went for these and I’m blown away.

Been listening to some of my favorite tunes all day, these add so many layers to the music I haven’t experienced before. Coming from a life of skull candy shit to this has been amazing so far.

I can definitely see how alluring this could be lol. I found myself looking at Bluetooth Sony’s and desktop amps before asked myself wtf are you doing.

Hey welcome to the club, before you go to deep make sure to always remember that your supposed to enjoy the music not the headphone so if the music sounds great and they’re comfortable then don’t stress about spending a ton of money.

My GF prefers those with upgraded pads instead of the 560S, the bass is sure fun when amped up

These are really great. Compared to my sundaras they still hold up really well, and those are 2x the price

I really love the 58X, I am really starting to appreciate it a lot more now that I've been listening to it a lot lately. I definitely like it more than my 6XX, it has the perfect balance of treble, mids and bass for me on a finely tuned Sound Blaster GC7. It is a pleasure to listen to and fixes up all the things that I do not like about the 6XX which was mainly the relaxed nature of that headphone.

ThatsPurttyGood101 t1_j9rvz36 wrote

Personally, I never had them at the same time. But I thought the 6xx and the 66s were similar but 660s was slightly better. Now 660s vs 58x was an insane performance difference. So personally, I feel the extra $ on 6xx is worth it over the 58x. But still nothing wrong with the 58x, still great

Yes!! Welcome. I have had mine for almost 6 months now and love them to bits. I just upgraded to a Hifiman Sundara recently and have come to the realization that this is it for me. I've reached my end game setup. Just enjoying the music now.... Switching back and forth whenever the mood hits. So good. So blessed.

It depends what you value.

The HD58X I felt was more well-rounded. It has wider soundstage and deeper bass than the HD6XX/650. Felt like I didn't need to EQ it and was happy out of the box.

The HD6XX is narrower and more "intimate" (as described by many). The detail in midrange is great and an easy listen. It was OK out of the box, though I used Oratory's EQ and they became one of my headphones for metal.

If I wanted just one headphone and nothing else between the two, I'd probably pick the HD58X because I'm a soundstage whore. However, since I've made an embarrassing number of sidegrades which specialize in certain things, my HD650 is in regular rotation. My nephew inherited the HD58X and he loves them. Both are good headphones.

astro143 t1_j9shoi5 wrote

I have the 58Xs at the office and my 6XXs at home. They're very similar overall.

58X has a touch more bass. 6XX has a slightly wider soundstage and clearer/more forward mids and vocals. 58Xs sound their best on basically any source. The 6XXs demand proper amplification, something like an O2 amp or similar is all that's needed.

When I have them home together I always grab the 6XXs. They just sound "right" to me. I recommend them all day long.

Cool. Have a pair of Philips SHP9500, but a friend who’s been helping me wants me to try the 6XX, which would be a huge bump. He ruined me by letting me hear what some crazy quality gear sounded like and now I can’t go back. He’s stuff was more than I’ll spend any time soon, but he’s helping me find the best stuff for my price range.

Your headphones will benefit from a desktop amp, but there's no need to spend a ton, especially not right away if you're enjoying them already. Despite what you see in this group, it's perfectly possible to have a modest simple setup you love and not continuously shop for more 😅

3

HighSynergy t1_j9tszwp wrote

They’d be a decent upgrade for sure. Nothing beats the SHP9500’s comfort, but the jump you’d get in midrange, vocals and detail is pretty huge.

I have trouble going back to the SHP9500 myself, but it was nice little starting point. With some EQ to tone down the treble, I still use them for longer sessions when working or gaming since they’re so light. However, they fall a bit short when critical listening nowadays. But now I’m going off topic lol.

Either way, hope you like whatever you decide!
