I would've guessed it was the quality of the amp, but for wireless headphones there shouldn't be any difference in sound

Theoretically shouldn't be the case. I have an s23 ultra and noticed no difference when switching my btr5 over to it

Every AAC implementation I've heard sounds different. I'm sure it's just that. I don't use it for that reason with my Grado GW100x. AptX and SBC both sound more normal than any AAC I've heard (including Apples, although it's much closer).

try manually set the Bluetooth audio codec in the Bluetooth or developer settings. Make sure they are the same.

Does the Samsung have atmos enabled by default? I'm pretty sure my S10e did. It worked quite well with a handful of tracks, ruined the majority though

I have Samsung Galaxy A12 and it's a weird case. For me the default system EQ (everything is at 0db) sounds worse than if I change anything. Even a 20k -0.5db decrease changes everything. My theory is some Samsung phones basic EQ is actually boosts some frequencies which could cause worse sound. Also some phones have audio settings and you can choose what type of headphones/IEMs you using and it changes the EQ even though the system EQ is at default
