Soo, after deciding that I did want to get myself an HD600, and specifically one with the old marbeled design, I finally got these for 180 bucks. They didn't come with the box unfortunately, but for that price and in that condition I'm not complaining.

I just came out of my first half hour of listening to them, and while more listening and comparing will certainly follow, I gotta say: I get it. I understand why these are as popular as they are. I should note this really is my first pair of Sennheiser headphones, despite having gone much further in budget before.

They aren't without flaws of course, but still surprised me positively. I was expecting the timbre, I was expecting the clarity/detail (compared with the R70x which has a similar timbre), but I was not expecting how dynamic this headphone is; it's quite a lot of fun.

Which do you like better, 600 or R70x or is too early to tell?

Too early to tell for me, especially since I've spent the last two hours dealing with PC problems. But I'm off work tomorrow, so I'll have all day to compare, and I'll come back to you then.

Listening to mine right now, I also had to have the countertop design, the new ones are boring IMO. 8hr workdays is what this headphone was designed for, easy to listen all day with no fatigue.

Oh, and a vintage set, at that. I like the sleek black look of the new HD600, but that marble look is pretty sweet, to.

I just got a new pair of 600s on sale from headphones.com and so far I'm a little unimpressed but I'll have to hold judgement until I can actually hook them up to my schiit stack because I don't have my rca interconnect cables yet. But once I can use them off my stack I'll really have to dedicate an hour or two to get a finalized opinion

I find that they reproduce vocals with a naturalness that I haven't heard from any other headphones. It's subtle, but once you get used to it, every other headphone I have tried has sounded a bit robotic and grainy. Their lack of a wide soundstage also lends to an intimacy which is hard to match. Unfortunately, they don't have the best extension or soundstage and therefore don't work with a lot of genres.

I'm hoping that when I'm able to use them at my dedicated stack I'll get the full potential and like them but if not I'll try to trade for something else or just straight up sell them
