Thats not natural wear, i wear mine everyday and have had them for at least 3 years and other then some scrape from pick them up and down, my sundaras look mint and no damage

this is only natural wear if the owner is a dog with rabies

There's natural wear and tear to all clothed and "leather" parts especially if you use headphones daily for years. That doesn't impair their functionality unlike collapsing headband.

this ain't natural wear and tear. look how scuffed the rim of your ear cups are. have to treat headphones like a piece of expensive gear to make them last

AnotherSpecificDuck t1_jeeaflu wrote

Yeah I know but I used many headphones for years and they never looked like this. My Beyers (1990 pro) saw daily use for 2,5 years) and I sold them looking like new

Nah, bruh… That’s not natural wear and tear. This is natural wear and tear.

Why the headband wrapped in bubble wrap?

3

Gofa_Kirselph t1_jeghfbz wrote

The leather strap fell off, which made the headband far too big and uncomfortable. There was no way to glue it back on without breaking the headband further. It was still functioning so I didn’t wanna risk it.

I wanted to see if one of those headband covers would work so I tested it out with bubble wrap instead. It worked but obviously the bubbles would eventually pop. Adding some packing peanuts helped and was unusually comfortable. I have since ordered a $10-$15 headband cover from Amazon because… well, you see how janky it looks lol

$65 for DIY headband for Sundara from Aliexpress or $125 original via HiFiMan Store

Whatever_acc OP t1_jeeb42s wrote

second option is out ot stock and pricey (I can get 560s openbox for about 200$) and I can't find anything on aliexpress.

mghazik t1_jeemq4d wrote

The 560s brand new $150 on ebay and it's literally downgrade from Sundara in my opinion.

Ticonderogue t1_jefu00a wrote

Different species. Dynamic driver vs planar magnetic. Still a downgrade to 560s, for sure. Yet 560 don't fall apart like this. I would just repair the Sundara. Cheaper than another headphone.

Indie__Guy t1_jef5qtf wrote

How does the top of the headband get so worn when it doesn’t touch any part of your head. You dont even have to touch the headband to put it on

5

Whatever_acc OP t1_jeg0cxt wrote

One side of it fell from the band naturally after about 1.5 years and it's not like it's possible to just put it back so I had to use dumb ways to keep it there which caused top of headband to degrade eventually.

Whatever_acc OP t1_jee18g8 wrote

They broke suddenly for no apparent reason when I was trying to wear them. Currently messaging all sellers on Aliexpress; Hifiman official store said they can't help me to get another headband and suggested consider another "higher end option".

Thinking about repairing those and selling for fraction of price and get something like Sennhs 560s or K712 Pro because those are just not reliable enough to use.

Hard to tell based on this picture but look at the general state of these headphones. Cable is a knotted mess and the top of the headband strap is peeling.

I have a feeling that the way OP treated these was the leading factor.

22

FluffyGreyfoot t1_jeemynv wrote

Not sure wtf OP did to that cable. I remember braiding a cable to make it shorter on a pair of AKG headphones once, cause the cable was non replaceable and 3 meters long, but I'm pretty sure that's not what this is.

6

Whatever_acc OP t1_jeend7w wrote

That's not a stock cable, it worked, but I didn't like it, so I replaced it. On photo it might look bad but I didn't do anything besides ordinary use.

Perfect opportunity to attach a beyerdynamic headband :)

Ticonderogue t1_jeftbtw wrote

Yikes. Looks repairable tho. Fit the sliding headband parts back together, glue where necessary. Than slap a ZMF leather headband wrap on it, or perhaps a cheaper neoprene wrap (velcro). I avoid pleather everything. Better than before.

3

Whatever_acc OP t1_jeearcc wrote

Update: I can get it back but it doesn't stay in reliably (it feels like it can break again easily as nothing is holding it but Holy Spirit) and the headband adjustment feels pretty loose comparing to another end of headband.
