I'm fairly new to the audiophile world, but I've been noticing pricing inconsistencies that have been making this new hobby fairly disheartening.

I was looking for simple (but nice looking) RCA to XLR adapters and found some decent ones listed at Moon Audio: https://www.moon-audio.com/moon-audio-rca-xlr-adapters.html

I wasn't sure about the price, but after they wanted to also charge me an additional $40 USD to ship to Canada I decided to keep looking.

I then found the exact same adapters on Newark for $2.89 each! (thanks Google Lens) https://www.newark.com/mcm/27-4160/rcafemale-to-male-xlr-gold/dp/29C9178

Seems like Moon Audio takes these adapters, made by MCM, and rebrands them as their own. All in it only cost me $16.25 USD for the pair with shipping to Canada, instead of $80 USD had I gone with Moon Audio.

HA, Moon Audio... yeah. They love to assign characteristics to their cables like "Silver strands will pull out โ€œlostโ€ middle and high tones for maximum detail".

it's been years since i've bought from them, but their return policy is fraud. i bought a brand new headphone and they sent me a brand new headphone. it was in mint condition. i tested it for 3 days and decided that it wasn't my taste. during this time, the return policy said something like "10-25% restocking fee depending on the condition of the item" or something like that. the headphone that i returned was in mint condition with no damage and i even wiped it with a slightly wet cloth. they automatically resorted to deduct the max restocking fee which i personally knew was utter bullshit.

I would've filed a charge-back with my bank if you did that too me.

Of course a scam company will do anything to steal money from uneducated folks.

Moon Audio is a joke, these are not very unimportant parts but definitely not worth that much. Ripoff/scam idk what it's called but basically, don't buy Moon Audio.

Donโ€™t get Moon Audio confused with Sim Audios Moon line; the latter actually worth the investment (probably)

Moon Audio products are usually of higher quality. If you are new to the hobby or not using higher end equipment, it's better to buy cheaper one and invest the rest on your cans first imo.

Iโ€™m not opposed to purchasing higher-end equipment, but I think trying to pass off basic adapters as high-end is pretty scummy.
