Hey this is a bit of a weird post, but I’ve wanted to hear an HD800 series headphone for a while and was wondering if there’s anyone in the Boston/Cambridge area with a pair who’d be willing to let me demo them.

I don’t have the $ to buy my own and really don’t ever want to spend that much on cans again. Idk if this breaks the rules, but if you’d be willing to let me audition you’re HD800 send a dm!

I love that idea. I'm going to try it for Central Oregon.

Their return policy is generous, you can send it back and not have to pay as long as it’s done within the first 30 days upon receiving it

Just be careful not to abuse it, they get cranky if it is too often.

Also double check that the item qualifies for returns, I bought an item that didn’t qualify for a return and was lucky that i liked it enough to keep it.

I’m aware, but he’s got his eyes set on one headphone only. And yes, it will say if it’s covered by prime (which means you have the 30 day return policy) before purchase. Totally agree with everything said above

Right, it was just a warning before someone thought they now had an all you can smell buffet.

And the item I had was covered by prime, but some prime items are not eligible for return even when shipped and sold by amazon.

It was the first time I encountered a no return item so just was trying to be friendly and let it be known in advance.

Ah, in don’t have a grand spare to put on hold for headphones for a while. Why I asked the way I did. Good tip tho!

I’ll elaborate more, if you have an Amazon credit card you can choose to pay monthly but of course you won’t be making any payments as you’re sending them back before the first payment is due. Worst case if you like them or forget to send them back you can make monthly payments but resell them on here instead of eBay where you lose roughly 13% due to eBay fees.

If you post this request on head-fi.org I’m sure you will be able to find someone in Boston. Alternatively you can search for a local meet. Although I’m not sure if those kinds of things have waned since Covid.

Too bad I don't live in the United States, otherwise I wouldn't mind meeting up. I could try your cans and you can try my HD800s. I've never tried Audeze and Hifiman and I'm curious about them.

Well I live in Europe and use LCD2-F and was looking to switch to HD 800 as a physically lighter headphone.

Decades from now r/headphones users will tell their grandchildren the dark tale of how the infamous Headphone Killer first got started with what looked like a harmless request for help.

"Look at this, Johnny. It's is my special edition Sennheiser HK-2030 issued as a celebration when the bad man was finally caught... (sigh) Yes, Johnny, it has the veil."

Nah I feel like I’d be more likely to be the one entrapped or killed here yk? “Hey girl yeah I got a pair of 800s just come over here! Totally safe!”
