So I recently got my first phone that does not have a native 3.5mm port (RIP my 2016 iPhone SE, still the best size smart phone). I've ordered 5 different lightning bolt to 3.5mm adapters off Amazon and each one has had some issue, mainly distorting the sound profile or reducing audio quality (or the build quality is garbage). So I figured before I waste more time blindly order crap from Amazon I should ask here for recommendations for a non-shitty adapter. Based in the US and don't care about price as long as it is good quality. Thanks!

The 9$ official apple lightning to 3.5mm is the best one.

Damn for real? That's one I haven't tired yet because I figured Apple's would be meh, and their cable is white and my phone and headphone/cable are all black (plus resenting the fact that I'm having to dongle everything). I'll give it a shot.

I also found these after some Google-fu, but hard to tell if they're snake oil:

RunningLowOnBrain is right, the Apple Dongle is perfectly fine. But if you're picky about sound profile and don't mind spending money, then my suggestion would be to get something that works over bluetooth rather than a lightning adapter. The Qudelix, in particular, has a parametric EQ.

If you use an iPhone getting the Apple dongle. best at its price point. If you need something to output at 24/192 and want single ended and balanced look into either the Fiio ka3 or hidiz s9 pro.

Funnily enough the Apple dongle (as long it’s an original and not a counterfeit one) is the best DAC/AMP you can get for $9.

Yes I know it might flimsy but if you treat it good it’ll last forever; I’ve been using mine for the past 2 years and it still looks and works pretty good

I did some looking on Amazon, and the first thing I noticed was that these cost songs double what they cost for a Type C adapter. I noticed Anker makes one, and they are a huge trusted brand that offer an 18 month warranty on theirs. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Lightning-Connector-Certified-Headphones/dp/B07S7C7WND/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?crid=4NEFL1YS7X03&keywords=lightning+dac&qid=1667208113&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjQ3IiwicXNhIjoiNC42NCIsInFzcCI6IjMuNTgifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=lightning+dac%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-17 If you want to save a bit, I found one that looks good and I think we'll work just fine even though it's a less recognizable brand. https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Lightning-3-5MM-Female-Adapter/dp/B07Q49SVYR/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?crid=4NEFL1YS7X03&keywords=lightning+dac&qid=1667208113&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI1LjQ3IiwicXNhIjoiNC42NCIsInFzcCI6IjMuNTgifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=lightning+dac%2Caps%2C115&sr=8-13

Apple dongle is good sound wise. But it is rather flimsy and I find it twists itself up so much while in use that it doesn’t look like it will last a long time. Mine hasn’t broken yet but just… looks like it will lol.
