From left to right:

  1. KZ EDX
  2. Tin Hifi T2 Plus
  3. Blon BL01
  4. Moondrop Aria & Moondrop Quarks
  5. Moondrop Chu
  6. Shuoer S12 Pro

This collection is my progress over around 2 1/2 years. I have just received the s12 pro today as of posting this and so far I can say that they are the best one yet, beating the arias by quite abit which was my longest daily driver of the bunch.

This is just a little show and tell from me. Can't really write a review cause I still think of myself as a noob and I cant properly describe their differences besides knowing which one I like more.

I was thinking that this seems excessive but then I realized that I have had every single one of these at some point (excluding the kz) and then some ;)

I went CCA CRA->Chu->7hz zero->7hz dioko

Chu broke on the first week so i got diokos instead of aria or stellaris

Fortunately my chu didn’t break but also I didn’t use it that much. While the chus were good for the price I just kept going back to the aria. I was also considering the dioko but got the s12 instead cause I prefer a brighter sounding iem.

Fair, i still dont know my personal preference that well, really wish to test the s12 cause my only reference of more energetic sound its the CCA CRA which bleed way too much in the vocals for my ears and the treble made impossible to hear them for long sessions :( I was really in doubt between dioko and s12 but opted for the safer tuning since I cant return to aliexpress

HD560S -> DT770 -> CCA CRA -> Chu -> HD600 -> Salnotes Zero -> Aria SE

Sold the 560S to my roommate to justify the 600 and got the Aria SE after the Chu and Zero weren't comfortable.

How are the zero compared to the chu, I’ve seen that they’re quite close in terms of bang for buck.

They sound really similar. The Zeros just hurt my ears because of the shape, so I gave them to my girlfriend. Real shame, they sound great.

When it comes to IEMs my journey went like this:

KZ ES4 --> Tin T2 --> Moondrop Starfields --> Moondrop Blessing 2 Dusk --> Unique Melody MEST Mk. II

Surprisingly I would probably say I like the t2 over any of these. I didn't get too much time with the s12 but I did get to listen to them and there nice but the mids on the t2 are just so good.

I think my collection went:

Tin T2 > KZ ZS7 > KZ ZS10 Pro > Blon Bl-03 > Sony MH-755 > CCA CRA > CCA CRA+ > 7hz Dioko > Moondrop Chu > Etymotic ER3SE > Dunu SA6 Ultra

Took a big break in buying IEMs for a while between the 755 and CRA though because headphones lol.

Which one is your least favorite?

Zambiezzz OP t1_iu2hwtw wrote

I have to say it’s the Moondrop quarks. It’s the one I used the least, I don’t know why but I find it quite boring to listen to. The quarks and the edx are really neutral but the quarks are neutral but not in a good way. Sorry not really sure how to describe why.

2

CelltonCelsius t1_iu3cg8d wrote

I highly doubt the EDX are neutral. Definitely less so than the Aria, at least.

2

Zambiezzz OP t1_iu3g66s wrote

Hmm maybe that’s why I like it more than the quarks

1

Strix-7 t1_iu2nn9f wrote

I get what you mean. I currently have the quarks and dont care for them unless I EQ them

JustAu69 t1_iu2scqj wrote

I skipped the line and started at Aria because I thought the Aria was cheap enough for a first venture into IEMs. The thing about me is once I've got something nice I rarely go back to listen to the old gear, so the Tin and the Chu would just be a waste of money for me

consocmap t1_iu3a0r4 wrote

Is the S12 suitable for the jazz, instrumental or vocal music in general?

2

Zambiezzz OP t1_iu3gixs wrote

I’d say yes for me. Pianos and plucking of guitars sounds really good. I’d say vocals are also good. But don’t take my word for it, as you can see the s12 is the most expensive iem I have so of course it would the best I have. You should look up reviews about the s12 from more experienced people.

Bought kz edx for mic cable only. I already forgot how it sounds. Forgot where I put it as well after I bought wf1000xm3. Then, I bought s12 and eq it immediately after my first listen. After eq, it sounds fantastic.

Suvtropics t1_iu0bu34 wrote

Quite similar.

(Chronologically)

Zsn - t3 - blon bl03 - Quarks - 560s - xm4

JiminezBurial t1_iu3y7tm wrote

I've had a fairly similar collection/progression... just with another (costly) step at the end.

KZ ES4 > KZ KS10Pro > Blon Bl-03 > MD Aria > Fiio FHE > Yanyin Mahina.

I've also had KZ ZST, KZ CRN, MD Quarks, and MD Chu.

How do the S12 compare to the Aria?

1

Zambiezzz OP t1_iu40j4k wrote

I’d say the s12 has a much wider soundstage with better separation (like different instruments seem to be playing at a different level if that makes sense). Also generally brighter and clearer then the arias.

Edit: Forgot to mention the s12 has a much better build quality and a really nice and thick silver looking cable, much better than the arias cable.

MiddleEmphasis6759 t1_iu4dehj wrote

For me it's just been BL-03 > ER2SE so far. There have been a few tws purchases here and there, but I consider those separate from my wired sets. Thinking of grabbing the S12 as my next (and possibly last) wired set. I don't feel comfortable spending more than $200 on IEMs, and from what I hear the S12 is competitive with stuff in the $500-700 range for detail, so I think I'd be cool with stopping there.
