This is my first Sennheiser headphone i never own any other sennheiser headphone or byer headphone. Just receive the Hd58x today. I own koss porta pro , ath m40x , shp 9500, superlux 669b , superlux hd330 , takstar 82 , samson sr80, koss kc 75, tao tronic 90 something . Iem is kz 3 i forgot. No mods this is pure stock. Never try to remove the foam cause its already awesome imo.

TLDR : Solid build , bass is punchy , clean ,tight, very very good quality, but dont have that oof sound when the bass hit. but very pleasing. on some song and track sometime the bass just over power the whole song rarely happend.

Vocal is clean and clear even highs are just sparkle imo., seperation of instrument is good, piano and guitar sound so warm and just like a hug. Vocal is forward i like it personally . Feels like the singer either singing infront of me or is beside me left and right ear. I am not an audiophile so thats how i gonna describe it how i feel. My other headphone really dont have these type feeling. This headphone really suit for Kpop , edm, lofi, soloist. Everything just sound so clear and clean and micro details in electronic music like KDA can hear like everything.

Dac improve the headphone by 80% imo. its a must have. Koss bass is much more quantity way more punchy imo. But the hd58x for open back its really awesome. Its smooth and tight quantity is about 60% of the koss imo and very high quality bass i cant explain well. Thats just how it sound to my ears.

Review:

first impression looks like a toy cause of the shiny plastic but its super solid and i get use to the look and actually kind of like it.

build is solid nothing else to say.

Comfort : Comfort for me almost the full extend of the headband. Clamp for me is just nice but need to wear properly i wear spectacles also but no discomfort.

Amplification: using a dongle only my phone need around 80% for it to sound good and decent. Plug into PC around 50 to 60% it sound ok but if you plug into a dac or amp/dac it sound just wow.

dac/amp : i only got 2 cheap . its very cheap . Fiio k1 and suca audio.

suca audio its just a china no brand got it super cheap even cheaper than k1. If u all understand what it say please let me know so far i use this. Its way better than the k1. K1 give airyness and soundstage abit. but suca audio just win imo bass etc just more power vocal everything .

Suca audio specs:

Features: Adopt MS8412+SA9023+NE5532+97220 chipset: better performance. DAC height Decoding: Enhances digital sound. With headphone amp function: support 3.5MM headphones. High and low sound adjustment: more convenient to use. Fiber/Coax + PC-USB input: High transmission rate. Gold-plated for RCA output: More stable operation.

Specification: Headphone amplifier output maximum power: 90mW / 32 ohms Color: Black / Silver (Optional) Power supply: DC5V1A Frequency response range: 20Hz-20kHz (±3dB) Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR): ≥105dB Treble adjustment range: ±6dB Bass adjustment range: ±6dB Sampling rate: USB-24bit/96kHz, Coaxial/Optical-24bit/192kHz Control mode: tact switch + potentiometer knob Input interface: fiber / coaxial; PC-USB Output interface: gold-plated for RCA; 3.5MM headphone jack

Sound: Music i tested with Taeyeon weekend , INVU(mp3 format 320kbps) , Fire , Blue ,Fine , Spark, Feel so fine.Time Lapse. Feel so fine

IU : through the night(320kbps mp3) . Twenty three(320kbps mp3), Liliac.

Riot : KDA

Itzy : sneakers.

Others all are Flac file.

The one shine out to me was KDA lots of techno stuff but i hear lots of stuff i never hear before.

Taeyeon Blue its very relaxing and her vocal just shine Piano feels warm and awesome. Weekend funky style the guitar was just so smooth and literally made me node my head the whole time .

Time lapse the electric guitar and her vocal just shine . Feel so fine the starting the bass just wow.

IU even though its mp3 and 320kbps i still enjoy it sound very clean and her vocal also forward and just very engaging.

itzy sneakers theres more instrument than i thought lol. Lets just put it at that i didnt hear before with any of my other headphone.

Soundstage : average. But its ok . Maybe above average not as wide as 9500. Very in termite singing . Like the singer sing to you. or is like in your head something ASMR. Imo especially those vocal and piano song.

Imaging: everything just sound very smooth and clear and well seperated can hear every instrument. I not sure what is imaging . But all is just detail even those hard to hear instruments all can be heard. All the music flow and decay perfect to my ears.

Conclusion:

i bought this $250 to 260 I live outside of the US. I was debating whether to get this or the hd6xx or hd560s. I made the right choice. The bass is just perfect its just more clean and clear compare to my other headphone that i own. I keep coming back to this headphone . I been listening to this headphone for 3 hours cause i just got it. I cant stop listening to it. Youtube sound compress for the first time.

Piano and mellow song just all very natural and i love those piano and vocal its like the singer is singing to you. For me this is end game. Maybe i just change to a better dac or amp. I think it scale more clean.

mp3 song i need around 50 to 60% volume on my pc . Flac 16 to 18% volume 18% is loud imo but not uncomfortable just i scared dmg my eardrum.

So yeah. Maybe in future i will buy the 560s that cost the same price as 58x in my country. Cause its a bright headphone i never had one before but this is just huge and it suit very well for kpop.pop.

The high hats , drum , bass , piano , electric guitar and acoustic guitar all sound so natural and nice. Vocal forward and blends well. And even if they sing high note its not piercing . Its like very strong and smooth. I dont know i can take bright headphone or not cause this is already like perfect imo. Its shine. The bass also perfect in 99% of the song just some song it over power but thats if you focus on the bass if not its ok. Its not muddy like people say it is . Maybe they listen to another better headphone than sure but to me its way clean and clear . Bass again just nice . I cant imagine anything lower than this. Details , micro details all can hear.

If i wanna compare i have a superlux 330 its also 150ohm but superlux way more ez to drive. Sound wise superlux have better soundstage more wide bass maybe lesser if not mistaken not as punchy as the hd58x or maybe more punchy but not by much. Other than that senn wins hand down.

Hope this helps. Not an audiophile but among all the headphone this is the most expensive. and i can see why its nothing i experience before. Its light the build , comfortable , Sound also light and just awesome. I am just happy i made the right choice and it suit my genere of music like way beyond what i expected.

The 58X is my favorite headphone that I have under $200. I've since moved on to the HD 800S as my daily driver, but I use the 58X for playing electric guitar through my Line 6 Helix. No other headphone I have makes my guitars sound as real as the 58X does. If I had to sell all of my headphones and keep just one on a desert island, it'd probably be the 58X.

Yea the electric guitar is crazy. Sounding. And to be fair the piano , acoustic guitar even sounds amazing. Vocal too. Like there's no sharpness that hurt my ears. Some of the headphone I use sometime because the vocal gets too high like for IU cause of her voice and her amazing vocal range it actually hurt my ears. But this pair it doesn't.

But if I gonna upgrade maybe a better DAC. Cause the differences between the china desktop DAC and K1 is a big difference from what I am hearing and it draws more power for the suca audio.

Btw I wanna upgrade my DAC. What you recommend? And do you recommend I get an amp?or a pre amp? I feel like a better DAC woul improve the clarity and reduce noise for the headphone .

I'm not the most knowledgeable on DACs, per se. I went from a cheap Syba Sonic (now Best Connectivity) amp/DAC combo to a Schiit Modius after a few years. Now I'm using a Schiit Bifrost 2. Other people on here might be better suited to telling you what to upgrade to, while still others will tell you that all DACs sound the same and there's no point (jUsT gEt aN aPpLe dOnGLe).

As it stands, I'm looking into an upgrade for my Darkvoice tube amp next since I love what tubes do to my HD 800S. I'm eyeing the WA7 Fireflies 3rd gen, which is a tube amp that just also happens to have a built in DAC and pre-amp. I know even less about pre-amps; never used them as far as I've been aware.

I guess you could go the Topping route. They seem to get a lot of praise for their stuff. Like a D30 or D90 or whatever.

Like now I got 58x I got a china DAC. I got enough volume. So do I buy an amp or a pre amp to like boost the quality? Btw this is my end game not gonna buy any other headphone I am contented. So yeah. Please advise

You just need an amp and a DAC or a combo amp/DAC (all-in-one amp w/ DAC built in). You shouldn't need a separate pre-amp to drive the 58X whatsoever. The idea is to make sure you can drive the headphones properly. Basically, this means that your getting a satisfying amount of volume out of them without needing to turn the volume dial all the way up (if you need to do that, then you're not getting enough power). The 58X should not need anything fancy/expensive (relatively) to drive them/make them sound good.

Edit: since you already have a FiiO K1 DAC, and the Suca Audio looks like a tube amp, that should be more than sufficient. Are you saying you're not satisfied with the amount of volume the Suca amp provides?

Edit 2: Is that Suca a pre amp? You should be using a regular amp instead of just a pre amp I believe.

Edit 3: The more I look at the Suca amp, the more I want to suggest investing in something that will provide a better, more effective listening experience. Again, you don't have to spend a lot of money to do this, but a $50 mini tube amp probably isn't going to provide you with the best that the 58X can offer. From the reviews on Amazon, people are saying that it lacks a ton of detail. Maybe look at Topping, SMSL, JDL Labs, Schiit, etc. for something that will allow your headphones to display the amount of detail and volume they're capable of. There are plenty of amps from those companies that are in the $100-$200 range.

The spec suggest like a tube amp? But on the seller page saying it's a DAC. Inside have a small amp or something. That's what the seller said so far it can drive flac song. Suca audio at 14%. Suca audio it's not a pre amp or an amp. I think it's an amp DAC or something I post the link here.

And got one Redditor suggest me to buy a ve megstron amp.

Like I totally don't know what to do. The sound imo it gets plenty loud. Maybe I just want a clear audio.like I feel it didn't reach its full potential. That's how I feel it.

And I using the peace eq just wow. The oragotory sound clear the vocal and the bass pull back ABIT which had more bass but it's ok. The other present near to stock which has more bass I enjoy so much.

Like I am looking into fiio e10k TC or the fiio k3 or k3 pro. Cause I feel like my suca audio gonna spoil soon. I bought it super cheap. Around $20+ usd.

Saw this DAC amp. It uses the ess DAC chip or something. On fiio k5 pro . But in china brand. Can u take a look https://shopee.com.my/product/30095187/9933570725?smtt=0.364139984-1666140875.9

It seems we have the same headphones and very similar tastes in music OP! I largely agree with your review but have a few notes I would want to add for anyone interested in an HD58X. I listen to mine with a DIY Objective 2 AMP so my experience may be slightly different from OPs.

  1. The included cable is trash, I have had a ton of problems with mine. It's far too long for my taste, made of poor-quality rubber, and I constantly have to fiddle with it to get it working properly. This wouldn't be a huge issue except that Sennheiser uses proprietary headphone connectors so making a DIY cable as I usually do is quite difficult.

  2. OP describes the sound stage as "OK" while I would go as far as saying it's downright underwhelming. The soundstage is barely wider than most closed-back headphones I have tried, and as someone who often struggles to find a quiet listening environment, I often reach for my Sivga or Sony headphones which have only a slightly smaller soundstage and the benefits of being closed-back.

Still good headphones, probably the best-sounding pair I own especially in the imaging department. OP has very much made me want to purchase a DAC instead of using what is built into my PC with their remarks on KDA and Itzy, two of my personal favorites.

Oh my god! All hail the Audiophile King! How dare the OP deign to comment on headphones! That puny, average consoooomer. Disgusting, vile creature infecting our King's sensibilities. Be gone, average consumer!

In all seriousness, though, get a life /u/swaggod5. Not very 'swag' of you to shit on, well, anyone in general.

This is a poor contribution. In contrast OP has provided a detailed view, with information on the setup, context of other equipment as benchmarks and even the music used to test. I believe that as much as OP undervalues their opinion, you overvalued yours. Do better, be kind.

Wow thanks. This is my first review so I don't know what to write actually just base on my own hearing and experience. By no means I am no audiophile. I have no graph whatsoever. Thx for the encouraging words.
