I’ve found anything around crinacle to be quite toxic. I think people have taking his character too literally and also having a very large group of people in there it goes from everyone pretending to be no nonsense, to head up arse territory very quickly.
People forgetting this is a subjective hobby for making air wiggles and tickling brains and really not much more than that at the core of it. Hell we all hear differently and have massive sensitivity swings. It’s only ever opinion.

I've realized it myself after my experience. I still will listen to Crinacle's opinions because he's a respected reviewer and audio expert. I'm not close to either of those things, but I can comprehend reading his reviews and sharing my interpretation of his messages. In my recollection, I found that he felt it wasn't a good enough product on its own to recommend but if people were interested, it could still be improved if they wanted to save money. I think that's a fair and valid opinion.

I think crin himself is fine just everything around him gets murky.
I mean you might like it but it’s not a value product at all. And for that money if I had to EQ I’d personally be disappointed I guess if you prefer something and it’s cheaper it kinda doesn’t leave a lot of room to be recommended in ones head.

I would love for drop to have released it the way everyone wanted it. I don't agree with how it was made at stock either. I just think, if you want an 800s but you wanted to save money, it would've made sense to try the 8xx. Sure you might be able to find used 800s or an 800 itself with SDR modded, but it's better to have a store-backed product in new condition (although many don't trust Drop even though the parts are compatible with Sennheiser's materials), and the 800 might be great but isn't the 800s. So i think it's a good value for people trying to save in the 1000 range.

The other reason is, almost everyone that bought the 8xx has liked it, and those who tried EQ or modding ended up saying that it improved the sound substantially to their liking. I know there are many other great headphones out there, but the 800 line is very unique in what it is. It's one of the only ones with the sennheiser-like signature sound, with unique features in how it presents soundstage/imaging and orchestral/classical music.

So my point is, it isn't the best headphone, but I think it deserves to be part of someone's collection, if they're willing to make some accommodations in exchange for savings on price.
