Pc feeding a Topping E50 over usb. 1/4” TRS feeding balanced to Topping L50. Also single ended out of the E50 to the Suca Audio Tube-T1 preamp then single ended into the L50.

L50 isn’t true balanced out but I wanted something better than my stock 4XX cable so I picked up a XLR balanced cable that allows me to use both jacks simultaneously.

Topping DX3pro+ sitting there hooked up to nothing.

Headphones from left to right:

HD-560S, HD-555, ATH-M50Xbt, HE-4XX, HD-650, Beats Solo(Gen1), Astro A50(Gen2)

HE-4XX are by far my favourite. Sundaras on the way to compare.

Beats are what guest listen to first before they get to touch the better headphones. Gives them a baseline of what the average consumer considers “good”.

Future plans: probably returning the HD-650. Despite what the internet says, they’re not great headphones for hip hop. While great at everything else, they’re just a more intimate 560s with better bass at 2x the price. Oh and I hate the clamping force of the 650.

Might look at meze 99 or something closed under $500.

Just picked up the new topping stack the other day so its recently replaced. It will get gifted to my nephew once I do some comparisons testing. If I keep the HD-650 I’ll give him the 560s as well.

Meze 99 is bloated shitty headphone. Why would you wanna dump that much for it. Get k371 by akg

When you say "retired", does that mean you're going to sell some of the headphones? I might be in the market for a few (though probably not in a while, as I recently splurged on a lot of music CDs).

Also, what's up with the Tidal UI?

They just don’t get listened to anymore. Once in a while I’ll put them on and remember why they’re just for looking at now. 560s is the only on that gets pulled out to compare to the 650. I figure they will be cool to pull out one day 30 years from now when I get my robot ears.

Tidal is what’s playing on the computer feeding the dac. I have a flac collection too but tidal is convenient.

I get that you're streaming music on Tidal. I asked because the UI looks weird, like there are elements intersecting each other - it looks better than that on my devices, I can tell you as much.

Ohhhh, I just have it in a separate window scrunched down to fit the frame so you can see a couple tracks on the playlist. Didn’t even notice it overlapped elements til you mentioned it.

Suca would be the English representation of what the word “bitch” in Slavic sounds like phonetically.

How it the tube t1? Saw something similar for like 50 bucks on Amazon and it looks interesting. I have a Xduoo TA-26 and I'm wondering how this would compare (and if it even has enough power to drive things like the 6XX).

It’s a bit of a gimmick due to how distorted some music sounds, but once in a while on a complementary song, it adds delightful warmth.

I like it for dampening sharp sound at night when my hearings fatigued as well.

Overall for the $50cad I paid for it, it’s a 7/10 device. Plus it looks cool imo

Sounds very nice, my TA-26 doesn't distort too much, at least it's not that noticeable imo.. Sounds like a cool device you have, especially the bass and treble adjustments that are possible make it seem like a great thing.

customds OP t1_iu4rtqv wrote

I think the distortion is due to how cheap the actual tubes themselves are. I’m going to try some upgraded ones and see if it makes a difference.

Yeah the knobs are a nice added touch. They’re not so much traditional bass/Treble adjustment. More how much you want that part overdriven. It’s not as clean as you’d expect when you go 1/4 increments up

ah well.. in my experience noise is low after having tubes run for like 48h. Distortion however is the feature desired for tubes (that makes my amp even weirder as the distortion is so low), but it always depends how strong it is.. like it's not like the music sounds all broken in my case, just a little more dynamic (but that's highly debatable)

Listening to anything with a guitar is enjoyable with distortion, same with certain voices. I enjoy an overall warm profile so this sweetens up some of the colder cans. But I listen to a lot of hip hop which has intentionally distorted bass to start with. Certain tracks become so muddy through the preamp that it sounds like +30 gain on everything lol.

I’ll try burning in the tubes a bit more perhaps. Only been running it maybe 10 hours.

Good luck, it could help or do absolutely nothing. I have tubes that never hummed to begin with, some that stopped humming and some that never stopped. I also had one tube that was weirdly broken and it distorted so crazy that the music was all messed up. The replacement was fine and showed none of these problems.

Tubes are weird lol.
