Fair enough. I just can't find anything else with the same sound as these and I really love them.

Every single replacement that hifiman has sent me (and they've all been brand-new units) has either awful channel imbalance or one of the drivers rattling like crazy. Now my 7th pair just started rattling loudly in the left ear and I've only used it about 3 times. There is no hair or anything causing the rattle except the driver itself is clearly defective.

For some reason I always forget about this as a possibility but I will ask them this time if I can just return for a refund.

On the same price range the AKG K240 MK II or Studio are a great option.

I have the MK II and they're great, supero responsive and natural. You can't go wrong there.

I have a few other sets I'm happy with, just really liked the sound of the 400se's. They agreed to refund me. I will say, their customer service is as good as their quality control is bad.

how tf do you go through that many drivers? do you just sit at your desk listening to atomic bomb test recordings at realistic volumes or something?

That is just crazy. I have the HE-400,HE-400S,HE-500,HE-5XX,Sundara,Edition XS and HE-6se V2 and other than some bad cables have had no problems the 400 400S and 500’s are like 7 and 8 years old.
That is some serious bad luck.

I don’t have that many, I just have the HE 560 and recently got the HE6se and no issues so far

Hope you have some power for the HE-6se as they are more power hungry than my Abyss AB-1266’s.

I think I do? But I won’t know until I try them with some ridiculous speaker amp with 100w output lol

What amp is that ? Looks like EL34 power tubes.

It’s the Elekit TU-8200DX and yeah, they’re vintage Matsushita tubes relabeled with US brands lol. The specs say 8wpc at 8ohms so I’m not sure if it’s enough. I will say that the HE6se punch hard, have a big soundstage, and they’re super smooth with plenty of headroom on that amp.
