Don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing pair of headphones, I think it was just my expectations vs the reality that let me down. They sound worlds different and better than the Astro’s. But not as good as I thought they would
Also keep in mind this is my first time using audiophile headphones so I don’t know that much about audio
I would experiment with Equalizer settings with the DT 900 before thinking about upgrading to see if it's the sound signature that you don't like, and see what signature you do like
If you like the piercing treble of the 990s then you might like the 1990s but they aren't much of an upgrade.
I tried some eq profiles and I like one in particular after I tweaked it. I tweaked it so it was warmer and it definitely sounded better, maybe I just got to give them a little more time
Haven’t tried the 990s! Are they warmer sounding then the 900 pro x’s?
What's your source material? What are you using these on?
900* lol sorry
what piercing treble?
The mid to upper treble spikes
I just plugged them into the back of my motherboard as I heard an amp isn’t required
Give it some time and swap back and forth between them.
The 900 Pro X are excellent for the money.
But honestly, the biggest caveat is that sound is subjective and ultimately only you will know what you like. It's definitely possible that other headphones in the same price bracket will blow you away way more. I would rather try that, maybe some Sennheiser or Hifiman headphones, than jumping to the 1990 straight away.
Although if you generally like the 900 Pro X, the 1990s are definitely a good choice.
That sounds like a good idea, what other headphones in that price range would you recommend? Maybe something that’s a bit warmer then the 900 pros

Well if at all possible I would recommend going to a store and trying some out in person.
That said, the Sennheiser HD6XX or Hifiman HE 400 SE are pretty good. Hard not to be warmer than Beyers tbh
