So I recently received my first pair of proper headphones: the HD-6XX. Out of the box and running through my phone, I was immediately impressed and obsessed with them. Then I got the amp. WHOOOOOSSHH

If you are thinking about getting any midfi headphones or even IEMS, I highly recommend getting an amp. Since I got the KA3. I've noticed a few things

  1. The lows go lower: the bass rolloff that Sennheiser's 600 series is known for is flattened out, particularly in the sub bass.

2: Soundstage go brrr: It's just wider sounding with slightly better imaging performance as well.

3: Mids abs Treble: The mids are placed further forward and both the mids and Treble ranges recieve more detail.

This just goes to show that most benefits can be achieved without getting a crazy amp/dac. This $80 fiio nuggy does an excellent job and shows how you don't need a $200 Schiit stack to power most midfi headphones sufficiently. Sure, the stack might be better, but if you're broke or cheap like me, you'll be perfectly happy and impressed with the Fiio amp.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

I also just received my cheap dac/amp (Jcally AP10) yesterday for my HD600. I've been using only a dac (jcally ja3) for my HD600 for the past two weeks since I got it. On phone yeah it sounded anemic, but on PC it's almost the same sounding with my new dac/amp if im not mistaken. After some time enjoying your headphone' stock tuning, you should try oratory's EQ if you have not yet. That one became a noticeable change for me.

Hey. How is the performance of AP10. Does it power 1.8v into 3.5mm jack?

Thinking to purchase one and also pair it with my zen air can Amp as well.

Well, I'm not sure. I have not tried the 3.5 jack and went straight to balanced cable. And I only follow what their specs says. I have not seen others do a measurement test on it. But based on the specs it will power 1.8v only if you switch to high gain mode. On low gain you will only get 0.9v.
