As a big fan of open headphones I'm rather excited to see Sony giving this style a try. If they sound better than bone conduction they could be a real winner. Could work for biking?

For a moment I thought Sony had announced a new open back headphone :( But this looks interesting too. It's a bit like a cross between a wireless KSC75 and the old Sony MDR-F1, or like a shrunken version of the MDR-F1. Like the LinkBuds, but without the issue of needing to fit inside the ear. I don't think I exercise outdoors alone enough (I usually go on walks with my wife) to really take full advantage of its intended use case, but I'm still mildly curious about it.

So.. they're aiming for the niche where the shokz bone conductors rule?

if it even has 2/10 sound quality, it would be better than the shokz headphones

I'm skeptical that these will be able to produce any lower frequencies. Otherwise it is a cool idea.

From what I understand, the Link buds (like the OG AirPods) are a loose enough fit that it’s basically the same effect as this. I don’t think the issue is fitting it in the ear as much as keeping it in the ear when running. Which would be why these are directed to runners.

Bose solved this but maybe is sitting on the patent — wingtips (“StayHere+”) that anchor the bud in the fleshy part of the ear. Their “soundsport” headphone used to be a loose ear bud style that used the wingtips, but now they only sell the wingtips in IEM models. I don’t think they win any audiophile awards, but those were spectacularly comfortable headphones. I bought them twice and managed to lose them twice (I have no idea how, I just don’t know where they are).

They seem like a good replacement for my xea20, which get uncomfortable after an hour of biking. I hope they aren't that expensive in half a year

Honestly seems nice for when you’re riding a bike casually. You don’t have to worry about not hearing things
