Audeze count as "Mid - Fi"?

Genuinely speaking: no.

In a more technical sense: fuck no

How about in a scientific sense?

It's ridiculous isn't it? "Mid-Fi" would be a portable BT speaker or an economy car's stereo.

Only if you 'plan' on spending much much more in the near future (ie buy even more expensive headphones :))

What's the purpose of stacking the ifi units? They're both their own amps and DACs are they not? Thanks to anyone who replies, I've seen this a lot and am curious.

The Zen Dac V2 is a Dac with a weaker amp. The Zen Can is a Class A amp and just helps improve the bass a bit. Not a noticeable difference though.

Glad you're liking your Zen stack. I got it a while ago as I wanted an upgrade to my K5 Pro. I was very disappointed with the sound of the stack. I found the sound to be very harsh and the bass too weak and soft. This was through the single ended output. I've never tried the balanced output so it might be much better through that. Are you using yours balanced out of curiosity?

The zen dac is an amp + dac correct but the amp section is weak. Zen can is an amp only.

You’re welcome. Strangely I liked the zen dac v2’s balanced output for my hd 650s better by itself than the stack so I ended up selling the zen can. It had enough power in balanced mode but this was my personal experience and only had the 650s.

Yeah, I have the zen DAC and it's fine for my 6xx and 5xx headphones.

Power match does amazing things on the zen dac. To me, the true bass of the zen dac is boomier. Xbass on the zen can is tighter/punchier. Nice to have both and that extra power on the zen cans.

Fiancée broke my HD6XX during a work trip and seemed like a good reason to upgrade. Originally, the Meze Empyrean was going to be my next upgrade but was able to get the LCD 2 Bamboo 2018 model for a good price, and really like the way planars sound. Picked the IFi stack as they are demo units and on sale.

Amateur Sound Review: Bass: The extension into the lower bass is amazing and gives details that I have never heard on xthe HD6XX

Mids: Definitely a bit weird, but reading online EQ can help. Some vocalists sound great and center, while others seem further back. HD6XX vocals did sound better but may change after EQ.

Highs: Have been great and add a lot of detail to bands like Artic Monkeys, and Queen of the Stone Age.

Overall, guitars, drums, and snares sound so much more alive on the LCD 2 and you can almost tell how hard the strings have been plucked or how hard the drums and snares were hit.

The biggest change once the dac/amp was added was the bass got more dynamic and overall, the soundstage felt better.

The main complaint is the weight and clamping of the LCD 2. The pressure can get a bit painful after long use, and when demoing the Meze it is even more noticeable the difference.

Consider wearing Audeze a neck exercise lol, it gets much better with time and you won't have to worry about any headphones weights in the future.

Ah ok. How are you liking this to the hd 6xx?

Hello, Compared to the HD6XX overall an upgrade on bass and treble. Vocals were a bit better on the HD6XX but LCD 2 can be EQ easily. Feels like a good upgrade path from thr HD6XX overall

Hey , i have a lcd 2f and ifi zen dac do you think there is a noticable quality improvement in single end of zen dac to zen can stacked , will adding a zen can be an improvement in dynamics , bass , details , Soundstage etc??

Cool setup! Just a week ago I jumped into some better audio from old sennheisers to almost exactly same setup (just ifi zen dac v2 and lcd-2's with rosewood)

kind of disappointed with my ifi, randomly after my computer goes to sleep or restarts, my computer doesn't recognize it and I have to un plug it and plug it back in.

Definitely EQ them. The clarity is so much better once EQ'd. Can't remember the EQ I use for mine. But after EQ, I can't imagine anything sounding better. Maybe something with the mids and lows of audeze, but highs of a beyer dynamic?

ColdsnapBryan t1_j6gwh39 wrote

Gah something about the volume knob on the DAC and headphone jack drives me nuts. Ifi is good stuff though.

Congrats on the lcd2. I just got mine last week and honestly think I could stop here. I can't see how anything could sound better. Mine is Pre fazor with dekoni elite hybrid pads , and no eq. Enjoy!

According to the frequency response seems like the lcd 2 would be more muddy and veiled
